Thread regarding Enbridge Inc. layoffs

Did leadership suddenly forget safety when they are so desperate to have everybody return to the office???

For a company that practically vomits safety on a daily basis, they suddenly “forgot” completely when they came up with the return to office cr-p. Coming to the office means I am now exposed to people that are either not vaccinated or that have COVID and don’t realize it. Doesn’t it seem extremely suspect that a company with such a deeply engrained safety culture would even slightly risk our safety by making us come to the office. What the fu-k is wrong with this company??? Why are they insisting so strongly that we return to the office? I used to get around 7 colds a year working from the office. Since WFH I have not gotten sick once. As soon as we return to the office we’re going to be around those old farts coughing everywhere because they’re too scared to take a sick day in fear of losing their mundane paper-pushing jobs.

They are treating us all like children on the playground telling us what we can and cannot do. If you’ve read the emails with the policy, it reads like a communist manifesto.
Now with all the rising gas prices and everything else, it is even more of a reason to not commute. The only thing that hasn’t gone up in the last 2 year is salary. I urge you all to refuse to comply with their sad excuse for flexible work options.

"To the guy below who took the voluntary termination. I bet your co-workers are happy you fled."

When I left, I left things organized and under control. I burned no bridges. I have coffee my coworkers on a semi-regular basis, and I had a great chat with my last manager two weeks ago. I was asked about returning as a contractor, but I'm a full time employee with another company. We're fine.

"If you are a shareholder and also have these opinions you're not smart. I would sell ENB."

Would you now? And that would make you smart? ENB is a great stock to hold. There isn't a lot of upside, but the dividend is predictable and decent, and the moat is wide.

"You're still a shareholder but it appears you are still advocating your former colleagues to be put through the meatgrinder to keep the share price up. GFY."

What meatgrinder? You really, truly, think they're hard done by? Amazing.

I agree with this post...but lets not discriminate, its not old farts coughing...its all ages. Common areas like printers are a cesspool of germs.

I happily shut down my computer after 8 hours, we all should for our mental health. There are those exception days, but they should be few. There are very ill employees working from their bed. It's not right...and HE knows it.

Very true. As soon as you put in all the overtime and take on additional work you have set a standard that is sometimes unrealistic but that is now what is expected of you. Burnout 101. Most importantly, if they know they can extract all that effort out of you, why do they need to compensate you more?!

Work your 8hrs, under promise and over deliver. My philosophy anyways :)

Early in my career , I was that person, the company devotee. Would stay late everyday, come in to work on my flex Fridays to fix the messes made by my co workers. If anyone is reading this thread, I beg you , don’t do this. My devotion was seen as a weakness, people started expecting me to work overtime as of it was status quo, and instead of gaining respect for my work ethic, I lost it. People don’t respect people who work too hard, people respect those who can work smart and at the same time network effectively to make sure they are visible. Hope someone will rad this and learn.

If you are a shareholder and also have these opinions you're not smart. I would sell ENB. If they can't adapt to the new reality, wages going up and let your employees work where they like, then they're done for.

Who the heck implied unwavering devotion to the company? I was just talking to "that guy". The whining OP. Anything else you're inferring is probably mistaken.

For the record, I took the voluntary termination. That's how unwaveringly loyal I am. But... I AM a shareholder, and I do have good friends who still work there.

"Send a postcard" is some proper trolling. Funny because it is both condescending and 1diotic. It's comical how you see this unwavering loyalty and devotion from some staff members to a faceless corporation who would cut any of us (yes they would, everyone is replaceable) if it helped the share price and exec. bonuses.

The original poster here hit the nail on the head. Oil companies are going to struggle to attract top tier talent (especially millennials/gen z) due to these outdated practices and regressive beliefs. I'm 39 and subscribe to the 8 hour work day. Unless there is something that is absolutely business critical, you get me working my a$$ off for 8 hours. After that, I go home to my family and live my life. Guess what? I do it all again tomorrow. I could care less what people around me think and surprise surprise I am still here. Not my fault you don't have a life or dislike your family. Pre-covid, I was asked to stay late to complete something that was bungled by my manager and the tone of the conversation was that it could affect my career. No idea if it was a test or bullying. That evening, my daughter had a significant sporting event that I was not going to miss, and I didn't stay late. The same middle manager works 70-80 hours a week and lives outside the city. He rents a condo downtown and only sees his two kids/wife on weekends. Think he will be proud of that in his last moments? I firmly believe that if you need to put in more overtime, you have a) taken on too much and will eventually burn out b) waste time during the day or c) you are bad at your job.... or d) the team is understaffed.

Everyone needs to cut the bull and acknowledge we are all numbers. They can fire us and we can fire them.

Original poster here. I apologize for clearly offending the drones that are happy with their dead-end job and content with doing the bare minimum being told what to do everyday. I will not apologize for believing that we work to live, not live to work and I owe NOTHING to Enbridge or any other company. I am not of the generation which gave their life for their boss or company. I will not work 1 minute of over-time without pay. I shut my laptop down when the clock strikes 8 hours and not a second later. The harsh reality is that Enbridge is bleeding talent and has been for a few years. Most of what's left are the submissive dogs that just want to earn a paycheque so they can load up their van Friday afternoon with their 4 kids and head off to a weekend of binging, rinse, repeat and are happy with that life. This is exactly the type of culture that the current Enbridge leadership wants. Let's face it, the days of oil and gas are numbered and already the ship has sprung a leak. The executives are just going to coast along as long as they can until they retire and it becomes someone else's problem. I started with Enbridge before this bu-----t and have seen a great company turn into the trainwreck it is now after Pat Daniel handed the reins to this sad excuse for a CEO Al Monaco is.

I'm always blown away how some people rage at the idea of workers having more freedom and more flexibility.

Its the same crowd that doesn't want to raise taxes for the ultra rich because 'you never know maybe I'll be that rich someday'.

Oh, for crying out loud... Quit. Quit, you entitled child. It's better for you and it's better for the company.

Quit! Head for those greener pastures! Why wait? They're clearly mistreating you horrifically, after all. Those work from home paradises are yours for the taking.

Fly! Be free! And send a postcard.

2 main things ENB exec loves to circle jerc about, safety and the environment.

Offering WFH has huge and measurable positive impacts on both. The issue is... one thing they love more.. is power over their serfs. If you're at home, they lose some of that power. Can't have that.

The whole shaking hands things has gone out the window with me as well. I don't care one bit about what someone says about me or how they feel about it. Had zero issues about it pre-pandemic but now I've realized I was shaking Leonards hand after he was playing pocket pool/scratching his bu-t or Karens hand after she may not have washed up after taking a #2.

From what I can tell you are a child on a playground. 7 colds a year? Jesus Christ if I were you I’d get checked for HIV. Your immune system sucks.
