Thread regarding Broadcom Corp. layoffs

Skills eroding here?

Unfortunately, I didn’t start thinking about this problem on time. I needed a job and I didn’t think much about whether my skills would erode here or not. It is only now that I am looking for a new job that I become aware of it and regret that I have stayed here so long.

just do it as a volunteer task, non-paid for some non-profit or something. everyone volunteers to do things.

just make sure you don't work with any entity that is remotely connected in the spaces that broadcon competes in. don't use company resources, nor do anything during work hours.

what you do in your free time as a volunteer is your business....

@2evb+1f9MViS6 that's why someone suggested in the thread to do some side gigs... it's not gonna happen working on any project internally....

You also need the opportunity to use those skills, otherwise the rust starts to set in quite quickly.

Skills only erode if you let them. Just do leetcode and you'll be fine. Look at competitor job descriptions and the tools they use. Then learn those tools and skills while rest/vest.

how long have you been here? the job market is hot but it's going to cool down later in the year... like everything else....

you need to kick into high gear...pick one area where you want to get learnings and focus on it...now... do a side gig to bone up ur skills, even if you do it for free to get traction.

do it now, don't wait... there will be a market and job correction this year. not a crash... but the it's not gonna be as easy as it was last year....

The opportunity to work with new technologies will be few and far between. There will be no genuinely new products or tech developed. This means that your skill will atrophy in the long term. Time to move on to something more challenging.

It happens anywhere you go and get comfortable in a place where stagnation and 'this is how we always did it' win out over innovation. Take some courses, setup some labs, get back in the game!
