Thread regarding Cengage layoffs

Piling more work on those that stay

OK, but everything has its limits. How long will Cengage be able to function by shifting the work of those who have left to those who are still here? I'm on the verge of leaving. If I get just a little more work from others, I'll give notice right away. I think this strategy is completely wrong and unsustainable.

@4aso+1f8hflLE. It's because the entire business is an echo chamber. Rationalization is an awesome thing.

Leave. Cengage. It will be the best decision you’ve ever made.

The inside sales guy just makes the point of piling on work, ha ha! Sounds like he is doing the work of the inside and outside reps. He got suckered in to doing all of his coworker's business. I hope you get them their bonuses too!

"Note how nearly all the comments bragging about not doing any work are from former sales reps?"

I worked in marketing and put in maybe a couple hours per day. I was promoted 3x in 5 years before I left for a much larger salary. Working at Cengage is like playing single A ball. Even if you're an all star you're still a loser.

I work in inside sales, we are all very busy doing the work the outside reps can't do, and making good bonuses btw. Spare me your bait...

I spend more time here in the Kentucky office setting up a fake demo list to appease my manager than actually doing demos. I tell them I have closed X amount of business and they leave me alone. Inflate those numbers its the name of the game.

The "make work" aspect is in this industry period. The others do it too.

The majority of Cengage employees fill their calendars with meetings, knowing darn well they are worthless. They do this because they need to look like they are actually doing something.

If you tracked the true, meaningful work, the vast majority of Cengage employees do, its probably 4-6 hours a week.

That's why the poster on another thread who blew their numbers out, while getting a graduate degree at the same time was so smart.

You can easily accomplish all you need to in 2 hours a day max.

I knew guys in Mason who would waste entire days just bullshitting in each other's offices. Throw in a 90-minute lunch and maybe a meeting or two and there's your work day.

The ship, although taking on water and slowly sinking, drives itself. Either get off, or ride it to the bottom. Most at Cengage have chosen the latter.
