Thread regarding Ford layoffs

Detroit train station in today's Free Press.

As part of the public-private partnership, the city of Detroit has a tentative agreement to designate a special Transportation Innovation Zany Zone of Yahoos (TIZZY) testing site within the Michigan Central district. The zone would give businesses and startups expedited approvals for trying out new technologies.

Well, they sure got rid of a lot of employees to pay for this. I wouldn't advise ANYONE to work at this new Ford.

I think you're right, @3daf+1f8CQY8V in that the C-level and BoD still think of themselves as a powerful manufacturer that can make a statement and the local economy will bend to make it happen. They'll fail to see why these plans are doomed to failure in an age where prospective employee's can quickly find out about how much Detroit taxes on top off the MI state taxes, and doubled if you live in the city proper. Then see how expensive housing is anywhere that they might want to live, and how bad the commute will be, including insurances and vehicles trashed by all the potholes. Not to mention the whole "hipness of urban living" took a huge nose dive over the last two years.

Ultimately I think Matty Maroun really managed to rip off Bill Ford with the train station. Too bad it's not out of Bill's own pocket, but rather Ford profits and on the back of all Michigan tax payers.

Who?
The youngsters who fancy themselves as the future Ford leaders. The ones who need to receive adulation from a crowd of people all day long. Car-Car 2.0
The youngsters who were rejected by the FANG companies, and just know if they could rub elbows with Google employees all day long, there would be a transference of talent to them, and they would be hired by Google.

It all smacks of a company run by old men stuck in an era of corporate hierarchy where they still think they can just make a proclamation and the whole Detroit area will scurry around to make it so.

So who are the id--ts that would want to take a 2% pay cut to drive an hour from the nice suburbs to the dump that is Detroit. Or, sign up for more taxes to live in a dump in Detroit. Oh yeah, all to sit all day in an office in the a train station - sure, when we'd rather work from the comfort of our homes and not take Detroit tax pay cuts.

WTF??...Tell me the name is just the april fools day prank moved forward to Feb.

Why is Ford trying to become what it is not? They think they can use the words like "Zany" and "Yahoo" and "Tizzy"; and Silicon Valley folks will flock to the en--a point of the country? If the idi_ts know any better, these 3 are borderline derogatory words in SV parlance. SMH.

I am almost sure they will change the name soon. Man this company never stops to surprise me with mediocrity. Reminds me of another time, where people who were going to attend CES were "encouraged" to wear a Ford T-shirt over jeans and of course a blazer to make it look professional. Jimmy Hacky did the same and looked funny as he-l on the stage.

LMAO how does this square with the stated direction of 75% of the white collar work force being in low cost countries? How does this square with the preference of the talent they so desperately need to recruit to NOT live in Metro Detroit and to work remotely?

The company is still stuck in a different era.

Give Michigan taxpayers their money back. A corporation earning billions should not be taking charity money from taxpayers.

So we lead the industry in recalls, meantime we are standing up a chamber of commerce?!?

When you lose your focus your core product suffers.....
