Thread regarding Emerson Electric Co. layoffs

Grass greener?

Do you keep in touch with anyone who left Emerson? Do you think they are doing better or worse? What kind of companies did they go to?

I was let go 2 years ago.
Was not unemployed a day. Started another job before the severance pay came. Now I make 25% more + yearly bonus, unlimited PTO, RSU, ESPP and full time work from home, and a friendlier, happier work environment where skills and innovation is valued.

I left for a 25% increase 2 yrs ago. Within 12 months of leaving my new employer gave me another 25% increase, Which took me a little past the amount that the millennial was making who I replaced at Emerson originally. Yes if you’re over 50 at Emerson you’re probably making much less than a 25-year-old at Emerson.

I left a director role almost a year ago and now I actually have a bonus that's worth something. My pay is 80% higher, the work is exciting, the culture is incredible and the management team shares the wealth with everyone. If you are not happy where you are, then you owe it to yourself to find a place that matches what you want.

I know that when I left, they just rolled my responsibilities under another person and did not backfill me, so not only do I feel like I didn't really matter, but they took that opportunity to burden someone else with additional work. There are so many opportunities out there that will make you wonder why you ever wasted another minute. Take the leap!

I left two years ago and am now making about 40% more on my base salary, with a 10% annual bonus, plus 4% 401k match, and restricted stock to boot.

The majority of people who left got those promotions Emerson said they weren't worthy of and make significantly more money. If you are stuck "managing up" under a director while you do all their work, leave. Someone else will reward you for your competence.

About the 40-50%…
Highly technical, scientific and automated. CEO is female, many business unit heads too. No ‘token’ anything.

Left about a year ago. About 60% in pay increase, with a lot more opportunities to grow. To a company that has reminded me how smart I am, after years of being surrounded by negative, mediocre people who thought they were kings of their own little piles of dust.

There are companies out there who operate at a different scale and are filled with incredibly smart and driven people. With cultures that make you want to get up in the morning and create the future. Emerson doesn’t have any of that, never did and never will. If you are unhappy or overcompensating to others when you discuss your work then leave. No amount of initiatives from the higher ups is going to fix a mediocre company at best.

I'm so embarrassed to have ever spent a day at this company. What a colossal joke. Deeply misogynistic leadership. I took a new technology position in Austin, I just got a 200% bonus payout for 2021. So much money I will likely contribute to my $20,500 401k max by June. If you have any IT skills at all, leave.

I left too. More money, better benefits. Better career path. Happier, younger and nicer people that want to work together. Best decision I made was to leave.

Interest to have 40-50% women in management- is it an industrial or engineering company?

Most are in a better place. Some were looking to scale back and not as concerned about $. They have stayed in industrial segments. . A few others are much better off- running other businesses in similar sectors.
A few keep looking for the greener grass.
Don’t be afraid, just perform proper diligence.

I left last fall.
New company doesn’t have layoffs every two years.
40-50% of leadership is female.
I have a snow day today. They didn’t want us to risk driving.
20% better pay.
No one talks about which high school they went to.
