Thread regarding Teradata Corp. layoffs

The market is hot

Everyone keeps saying that and yet they are still here. Is it really that easy to find a better job now? I don't think so, because there are a huge number of people who are applying for every position. The market is hot and in theory you can find something better, but the competition is also bigger than ever.

As an SSE, TD was already paying WAAAAAY under competitive wages.

I was hired in at the "TOP" of the SSE scale at just over 80k, and for what SSE's were required to do, the knowledge they were supposed to bring to the game and their direct impact on sales, customer relations, et al, it was fairly laughable.

I stayed on through one "contract" and was extended past September into end of December, but came across a job that increased my salary beyond 100k, and was told that because of my "above and beyond" level of support I'd been providing, they TD management would work on allowing me to have the bonus I would have received for the September contract.

Yeah, well, the executives apparently overruled that, so I got nothing.

I was so excited to be working for TD when I started, they had a great reputation looked like they were going to have a solid plan for transitioning to support both cloud and premises, but... Within the short period I worked for them they had, what... 4 or 5 different CEO's, and I myself worked under at least 8 different managers (one of whom lasted all of 3 weeks before saying, "Fu-k this... Not worth it...".

I hope the friends I made while at TD make it out. The job market IS HOT!

Only a moderate bit of effort, you'll be able to increase your pay significantly and end up somewhere with healthier future.

If you're any good at what you do, it's definitely a job seeker's market.
If you've become stagnant over the past 10-20 years and not kept up, it will be harder.
