I am considering a program manager position based in Redmond, and the job posting says remote working is ok.
Is Microsoft a company where working from home is really ok? My concern is that being remote and new to a large company may become an issue soon after joining.

Microsoft is by no means a remote-first company. I would get your remote or home office location documented in the offer letter so as to have an employment law defense in case things so south later on. Reason for doing so is that when times are rough, they will search for objective criteria to use for cutting positions, and being remote is fairly objective.
Sorta depends on the group you join --- but I'm on a team of 100% remote PM's and it's truly not an issue. You have to be FLEXIBLE though that's kind of the point. And when I say flexible I mean intentionally flexible. If people send you after-hours meetings make a point to triage them and attend those which are important.
