It bothers me a lot and I would like to start looking for a job with competitors, but I think that there is a lot of politics there as well, ie that Qualcomm is not unique in this regard. Or is there more politics and games played here than anywhere else?

This depends on what phase the business is in. When the company is in growth mode there aren’t a lot of politics bc work just has to get done and no one cares who can complete it bc the company is growing to fast. Once the company’s products are mature and everything is standardized- innovation no longer exist if new products are not produced. Then the political level of the company increases 10 folds bc everyone becomes replaceable. Your company is no longer innovative but is a process. Qualcomm is very political and trying to improve processes bc innovation is a relic just as the patent wall is a trophy 🏆 of what Qualcomm use to be and hasn’t been for a long time!
