Thread regarding Commscope Inc. layoffs

Subtle red flags before you were laid off

I'm anxious and worried about getting cut. Losing my job even for a short time would be really bad for me because I have no savings and I still haven’t received a new offer. There must be some tiny, subtle signs that can serve as a red flag that a person will soon be cut? I would love to hear your experiences about it.

Are you being asked to 'document' your work?
Are you being told to 'explain' to someone how things work?
Are you told to submit weekly status reports?
Are people looking for your work in a shared location?

@Uzex+1f5iCalS If your boss is not having 1:1, it means there is no work to be done and he is looking around as well :).
Suggest you do the same.

"Then one day you'll join your regular 1:1 meeting with your boss and find someone from HR is also sitting in"

What's a "regular 1:1 meeting with your boss"? We never hear from ours despite three months of idling :)

@1fae+1f5iCalS You are spot on with your analysis of CS being a shell of its former self and with encouragement to move on. Glad you are in a better place!

If your team or department start to shrink and your VP cant or wont explain what the plan or future of the team is you need to get out while you can

Yeah they lied and told the state unemployment folks there wasn’t enough work.

My team was busting their tail and we had projects backed up ready to start on the schedule. We all met our goals and did what we were asked. Then bammm, on a Monday afternoon half the team received “Business Update” meeting requests. We of course reached out to others to see who received similar requests. Our VP wouldn’t look us in the eye on the video call as she read tte script handed out by HR/Legal. Some had an idea it was coming based on behavior of mgmt, but I didn’t expect it. Plus, one found documents hidden away detailing plans to outsource the dept. We of course told those left behind, and as soon as the VP announced their planned departure the rest soon found out of their own predetermined plans to be severanced

I treated my job hunt as my only job and fortunately had others with me and we vented to each other daily. I accepted a new role 4 weeks after my layoff and started 2 weeks later. Although I miss my friends, it is the best thing that could have happen. I took my severance, invested, and doubled it.

Those currently stressed, update your resume and reach out to your LinkedIn contacts and make new ones.

CS is a shell of its former self and will never be the same. The acquisition of Andrew, BNS, and Arris were poor decisions overpaying for cr-p that would eventually be discontinued and written off or eventually sold.

You will be better off in the end. I am and now actually have time for the things that really matter…. My family.

Slightly less work given to you. Nothing with a deliverable more than 2 weeks out. Then one day you'll join your regular 1:1 meeting with your boss and find someone from HR is also sitting in. That's when it happens.

Watch out for even less comms than usual from your dept. Then an out of the blue invitation to a business update
