Thread regarding Broadcom Corp. layoffs

What are they afraid of?

Isn't it weird that the company would rather spend money on rapid tests than let us continue to work remotely? It makes no sense to me at all, especially when I know that most people, like me, are much more productive when working from home. What's the problem? What is Broadcom afraid of and therefore wants us in the offices?

There is no objective reason. The company is just led by someone who lacks insight into ordinary professional standards, and appears to have no interest in acquiring a better level of knowledge. Gets his knickers in a twist because he fails to understand that modern knowledge workers don't need a slave driver watching over them. The ranking system alone should tell you all you need to know about this company leadership's grasp on employee motivation and productivity.

Broadcom does not want leaders it wants followers who shut up and do what they are told and keep making them money. The jobs are so easy just go to work and leave early. Make yourself look better than others so your boss gives you good rank and other higherups know who you are. Very simple.

It's that culture for sure. The Charles days at CA were the same... control freaks with no care for the peons

hock doesn't care about closing offices, he would have done that ages ago. it's simply a cultural/trust issue. having worked for several firms run by asian ceos, it's the way things are...

They would save so much money with a remote workforce

They would not. Broadcom products are already stale, crusty and old, like the employees. Imagine for a moment you give lazy, talentless industry castaways ability to WFH. How many would do an honest days work? 50% ? Broadcom is a hodgepodge of old products and software. The employees that exist to maintain these products have very specialized knowledge. This knowledge is not useful outside of Broadcom. Its knowledge of the convoluted old 90's tech stack and hacks that make said products work in todays ecosystem. Currently Broadcom is able to get minor refreshes of these products to make them look new again, like taking an app written in the 90's putting it in AWS. Make no mistake Broadcom's customers are looking to displace these products faster than you can say What The Hock? If half the company basically checks out via WFH, then Broadcom wont be able to milk these long enough to pay back the billions Hock over paid for them.

They would save so much money with a remote workforce. They can track everything you do with all the spyware that brings your laptop to a crawl anyway.

It makes no sense to me at all..

It makes perfect sense. If you work at Broadcom you are dated, lazy, simply there to cash a check, rest and vest. Self starters, go getters, top industry talent, etc., all have long left. The type of employee at Broadcom needs a manager looking over their shoulder, otherwise nothing would ever get done. Broadcom is a daycare for castaways. If you are not happy, why not get another job? 99% of tech companies are STILL 100% remote. Any job would give you this WFH. But I know why you don't get that other job and Broadcom knows too. You can't. Good luck

Its all about control for Hock & crew. Though there is one sign that employees have some power - the booster deadline requirement that was Friday, Feb 4th has quietly been moved out to March 4th. Sounds like they are concerned about losing too many people who believe that Broadcom has no business knowing individual's medical records.

Octane does not care about you or your health. He does not trust you to do the job remotely. He cares about badge reports so he knows which offices to close. Major R&D sites won't close and every office is treated the same.

If that's not bad enough, imagine how complete sht it feels to be a manager at this company. My team is so scared of Covid for 2 years and constantly whining and complaining that they cannot wfh like other companies. It never ends but I can't tell them to stfu and I do feel bad for them and the stress which becomes my stress. It's the #1 agenda in every meeting or conversation. You can only tell them to review the policy so much and even having the GM say it for the 500th time does not matter.

Then you have ALL managers that lost out to any wfh rotations since summer 2020 like we cannot catch the coof. Oh and now TWO fn rapid tests even though I caved in to get the fn jab!?! I thought that was supposed to help everything! What a joke!

Tan man hates the remote workers. It is matter of principle: you do as I tell.
He loves making your life miserable.
