We used to have no problems filling vacant positions, there were always plenty of good applicants to choose from. That hasn't been the case in the last few years. For those who might think it has something to do with the current labor shortage, this has been happening for much longer than that. Could it be that the truth about the toxic culture and cr---y work conditions are finally becoming public knowledge?

This has been happening for 5+ years and is an industry problem. O&g no longer has a substantial pay advantage over other industries. No grads outside of SEC country want to work at Shell in 2022.
@zai, so true. Back when I graduated, O&G was the place to be for a "Top 20" engineer. Tech was laying off in mass and offshoring- no job security then. O&G paid extremely well back then - it was normal for senior technical professionals to make more than Internal Medicine Physicians when I graduated. That meant something. Lots of technology investment and expat positions to sweeten the experience.
Better companies out there higher interest now.
Such problems are not restricted to Shell - the O&G industry as a whole is not what it used to be 10+ years ago. Less growth, less investment in projects, tech leapfrogging us in pay and benefits, horrible job security, anything petroleum related is decidedly “uncool”, etc.
Lol. Good luck to you all in the real world :)
I can confirm that’s true as a new employee. Many colleagues left before they even graduate from the SGP. I’m also actively looking around. 2 reorg in 3 years are too much for me.
Work place culture and current views on the industry is driving applicants away.
Plus, who wants to go thru a layoff cycle and reorg every 2 years.
I think most of the good/decent workers realize it’s too much sugar for a nickel.
