Bridgehampton store manager job

LMAO, this is too much. Trying to keep a straight face here. Bridgehampton Kmart is hiring for a store manager! Exciting news, you can become one of the only 4 (yes 4!) Kmart store managers, in the mainland U.S.! That's right, if you take this job, you personally, will be 25% of the mainland US Kmart store managers:

These postings must be written by a comedian or something. Ya, I'm going to apply to manage a store that might be closing by Summer. Right.

I considered applying but I'm making 6 figures in LP in a non management position and I don't think they'll be able to match that.

There won't be much to see on the last day. Kmart will die with a whimper and not a bang. The bang should have been 15+ years ago had Kmart been allowed to fail normally. But instead we got this weird retail experiment. It's not even like watching a train wreck anymore.

Well, if you want to be up close when the greatest day comes, wouldn’t you want to be at KMart to see it firsthand?

I think these random "jobs" might be just posted by a computer-generated algorithm. I sincerely doubt that they are going to hire various managers for one of the 4 mainland stores that just haven't gotten around to close yet.

@2hlh+1f55m4L6 I hope you do. And please come back and post how your interview went, as I'm genuinely curious. And ya, if you're a single guy (or gal) who can relocate to the Hamptons, you should go for it! Lot's of "scenery" there in the Summers, so as I posted below.......grab a few Checks while they're still open, then draw your UI Checks, then just go get another job after that. Sounds like a good deal.

Im tempted to go do this now. Nice little vacation in the Hamptons. Get to tell everyone I’m rarer than a Supreme Court Justice! Cash in for a few months of doing absolutely nothing then come home when it’s all over, it can’t be more than a few months t this point.

@1vxv+1f55m4L6 So do it then! Please apply for it, and if you would be so kind to come back & let us Know how the interview turned out, I'd appreciate it. I hope you get it, because at least you are realistic about the prospects of this "job". Grab a Check for a few Months, then when it closes, draw your Unemployment. Heck, if I wasn't 2000 miles away from there, I'd apply for it too! And I'm being totally unironic about it.

I'll do it.

Just pay me enough (at the first day of every month) to sit there and treat it like contract work with a beginning, an end, and a set rate.
And there won't be any hard feelings when the job ends.

Hopefully, anyone considering this post feels exactly the same way. There should be no delusions that this is a job with a future.

They've done it before with Sears and then closed 6 months later. Whether the new manager was aware of it or not I don't know.

Ya, to the poster below, it does seem that way. They have 3 full Time openings in that store, a SM, ASM, and office manager. If they are hiring all those people, it seems they aren't closing soon. But we'll see.

At the risk of being downvoted, maybe they plan on keeping that store open for a bit longer than expected. If they were gonna close it soon, then no need for a SM. You could just run the store with a supervisor.

@1imv+1f55m4L6 I'm thinking it would be more of an embarrassment. Kinda like being 1 of 4 people in the country being so desperate they invested in a company that makes rotary phones. LMAO

Just playing devil's advocate here, for the sake of argument, but wouldn't it be kind of fun to be able to claim that you are one of only four stateside Kmart store managers? It's be kind of Cool to be "one of the only four" ANYTHING, in the continental U.S.. I mean, there are only 30 starting NBA point guards on Earth, and only 32 starting NFL Quarterbacks on Earth, and those are of course very exclusive clubs to be in. But there are literally only 4 Kmart store managers in the mainland U.S., so being one of those 4 is even more exclusive than that!

@1uov+1f55m4L6 I think you’re wrong my friend, this is a spectacular opportunity to advance. Think about it, if they can find one person to apply and be manager at this store, and they have an actual heartbeat, they could soar to become a corporate executive like CFO or CIO. Those positions have been vacant for years now.

Yep, exactly how lame must someone be to take that job? There are plenty of other stores t manager in Long Island. The only reason I can think of, is if someone wants to just work for a few Months, long enough to draw Unemployment when the store will eventually close.

On the other hand, it must be a very easy job. Probably this manager will have about 9 employees to manage, and that's about how many customers they'll see each Day as well. LMAO, Kmart store manager job. I think Eddie might be trolling us with these absurd job listings, just to see if we're Awake.

Imagine that interview.

Them: So, why should we hire you?
Me: Because I’m willing to be the store manager of a Kmart in 2022.
Them: You’re hired.

@hxk+1f55m4L6 That's a good point, I hadn't thought of that. Perhaps the NY/NJ Sears AND Kmarts are combined into one district, ditto for Florida. Good point.

Do Sears and Kmart still have separate 'districts' with separate managers? Besides the two remaining NJ Kmarts, there are also two Sears (Newburgh, NY and Jersey City) somewhat close to this location.

Genuine question here, seriously not trolling,

Assuming this listing is legit (and it seems like it is), who exactly hires store managers now? Who is the next higher person than store managers now? Do they still have a district manager, for the four mainland US stores? If so, then I guess, Bridgehampton, West Wood, Avenel, & Miami would make up 1 "district"? So does this DM, wherever he or she is based, have to fly into Bridgehampton to meet with this perspective store manager? I guess now, they can interview and stuff by phone or online. Just genuinely curious as to how the logistics of this would work with such a small, remaining chain.....

I'm guessing the posted office manager job is just the corporate position that was left at Hoffman Estates now being moved to Bridgehampton.

As with all Sears/Kmart positions, they require their team members to provide an exceptional customer experience. The difficult part in that is trying to figuring out how to provide some kind of experience at all. The easy part is having practically no customers requiring you to make the effort.

And think of the fringe benefits you could get after your 90 day probation period!
Oh wait, chances are it probably won't even be in business in 90 days. LOL

Hilarious! Also, I see on your link that they are hiring an assistant manager and office manager in that store too!

  • Soooooooooo, even if you don't get to be the pilot in that journey, you could still become the co-pilot, or perhaps flight engineer on the journey for 1 of the 4 remaining mainland US Kmarts. Ya, that's what I wanna be when I grow up.
Come on, my friends in Eastern Long Island, NY! Step up and fill these positions so you can navigate this Airplane called Bridgehampton Kmart, to glory!

Bwahahahahahahahahaha!
