After more than four hours of discussion, Novato Unified School District trustees agreed on $4 million in budget cuts — including at least 30 teacher layoffs.
The layoffs and other reductions are thought to be crucial in order to align with a decline in student enrollment, to eliminate deficit spending and to refine an organizational structure that hasn’t been streamlined for years, said Derek Knell, board president, at a public meeting Tuesday.
