Sears has not washed it's hands of these places . They are partners in that Sears is supposed to provide them with inventory and services. They are tied at the hip and are a huge liability for Sears regarding the potential claims of breach of contract t the little guys getting screwed over.Many are operated by Corporate that were in effect, repossessed or turn back to Sears. This is a feast for litigation lawyers.

Mostly "Independently owned and operated" stores according to the article. Sears has washed its hands of those places.
