Why not sell the big boy and all the rest of the steam engine equipment? To cut more costs , I say sell all the steam engines.

The steam program should have been cut when S Lee was in charge and his right hand man got busted with the boy scouts. It's a total waist of money that's run by a bunch of primadonna's.
Scrap the piece of junk!
Sell the Executives steam locomotives and fire the steam managers and steam train crews and relocate the to the PSR monster trains. They'll want to work on steam trains again for another carrier.
The entire cost is written off for tax purposes. UP uses the program for advertising. Quit worrying about cr-p like this and think about things that can help the employees. Even if the company did away with the program, you and I would see zero benefits. At least the public gets to see a piece of history and not just read about it.
You can sell the Big Boy, but please don’t get rid of the We Are One locomotive. Don’t know what I’d do without it.
What do you care about the steam engines? It's not like the company is gonna give you the money they save by axing the program. At least this garbage company we work for is willing to keep a part of American history rolling. You sound just like Vena.
They cancelled the yard taxi vans to save $,, so might as well sell all the steam stuff too .
Waste of man power, doesn't make revenue. Money pit. Sell it to a railroad museum and call it a day. People want to see it, they can go there.
This is posted about once a month. Not sure what the obsession with the steam engine is for some. They are not going to sell the engine or do away with the program. They use it for publicity and the cost is rationalized as such.
