Thread regarding Macy's Inc. layoffs

Manager, Operations

Seeing a lot of postings for “Manager, Operations” in the NE region. LinkedIn and indeed have “Monday-Friday 6am-4:30pm” in the description. Any one have info on this role? Is it logistics/fulfillment centers or store side? Pay scale? Part of the integration pilot?

This might be part of the rumor of them taking away the OVM job and turning it into two roles -- (1) Operations Manager and (2) Style Manager, which will handle the merchandising and visual side.

Is this the OVM role…..operations ,visual and merchandising. It’s the role/ title Macys created after laying 3 to 4000 folks off almost two years ago to save money at the store line while shortly there after giving big bonuses to senior management. OVM is a thankless job that demands endless hours ,has little support and has no clear career path. All OVM’s I know are miserable. At this point Macys offers no clear career path to any aspiring new hire. Actually Macys doesn’t even attract or retain talent. Why would they….there is no path to professional growth that taps into individuals talent. Many former Talented Macys professionals have been forced or voluntarily left…..to go to TJX. The Macys OVM role is the work horse of the store…endless and thankless… The stores that once had an operations manager…a merchandise manager and a visual manager…..well those roles were combined into one…the OVM. 3 executive pay checks combined into one. This in part is why so many Macys stores look like sh-t…..and apparently this is acceptable to regional folks because they continue to collect regional salaries while having little to no impact on the stores they are supposedly responsible for….perhaps cause they know stores are not set up to succeed and they can make no impact….so collect a salary and make no impact. In a company that once bragged to offer elevated merchandise presentation and great customer service……most …or at least half of the Macys stores are sad, dirty, embarrassing, messy ,no service environments that offer no semblance of what the Macy brand was or aspired to be. Those of us that once worked for Macys of the past were taught and held to high standards…..now not so much or at all. Visit a Macys in NE….Burlington….Manchester, Auburn,Newington, Portland, Marlboro,Nashua……and please offer to pick up cloths off the floor. Burlington….once a STAR in NE is a dump. Guess that’s okay because online sales and much lower customer expectations continue to help maintain sales plans. It’s so sad that Macys who once claimed to be Americas department store ….can present and operate stores like Newington, NH…..Manchester NH…..Portland Maine, Nashua NH……
