Thread regarding Macy's Inc. layoffs

So we have Macy's on our resumes

I am currently busy polishing my resume and I would most like another company to be on there instead of Macy's. Nevermind, I wonder if Macy's on resume meant anything to you looking for a new job? That is, did it have any value or did it look more like a stain on your resume? I appreciate your answers.

It still mean something good, but it means less and less each year as Macy's loses its way.

Before you jump to Target, make sure you read the posts on Target at www.thelayoff.com.

Well for one thing, if you have Macy's on your resume, Target or Amazon would hire you in a SECOND because they want to put Macy's out of business! I know a bunch of former-Macys who went to those companies.

Otherwise, YES, Macy's looks good on the resume (don't listen to the naysayers). It's one of the few good things about the company. I was surprised during my last couple of interviews (at much higher end businesses) that people on the outside of Macy's don't know how bad it is inside so they won't judge you lol.

(And yes, not only did I found another job but was offered multiple positions and had to choose).

Emphasize your accomplishments and the results you achieved. Macy's won't make a difference. You're selling yourself on your resume, not Macy's.

I agree years ago it meant something. Let’s just say over 2 years ago I had applied elsewhere and they only sent me an email confirming they received my resume and interest in the position. After that nothing else. This is with almost 20 years experience in my field and certifications plus several promotions. Depending on how long you are employed with Macy’s you pretty much have to include them so it doesn’t show a long gap of employment which will raise an eyebrow to a potential employer.

At one time it meant something to have Macy’s on your resume. That was 10 to 15 years ago when Macys was a quality retailer. Today we are nothing more than a low end mass merchandising company selling low end junk.
I tried to help a customer buy a quality 100% cotton percale sheet and we had nothing for her to buy. All of our sheets are low quality sateen or microfiber polyester. This is true of the entire home store. If a customer wants quality they end up walking out as there is no quality product available.
We price low end products at a ridiculous inflated price and then say it is 75% off. Even at 75% off it is not worth the price. Customers are not stupid they know Macy’s pricing is not realistic.
So to answer your question it means nothing to have Macy’s on your resume.
