Hearing rumors this week that GE in Schenectady is hiring again after the smart early retirees jump ship. I don’t see it happening I see massive cuts coming.

There will be no hiring for Schenectady at all. The work is dried up and 66 is a Temp R and D center. Wait and see first quarter by spring many cuts are coming. Why do you think the onion is telling everyone to stay busy? Been threw this before.
I have much more long term faith in 66 than I do in 273.
Of course they are. It's a business which relies on human power to operate. I swear some of you guys must have fell asleep in your computer chair on break and fell and hit your head with your delusional thoughts.
@1gbq, it would not be wise for a company to remain in a union dominated area.
Companies are businesses. They make money when they can sell a quality product for competitive rates. Now I know GE has not been associated with quality products for a very long time. But I really don't see how paying unions helps protect your jobs. The product is no longer competitive. It's an easy decision for a company to move away from Union loving areas.
Hiring is coming to Schenectady. Hourly and salary needs are greater then what’s currently available. 66 alone is going to need close to 50 more across all shifts, mostly 2nd and the coming 3rd shift in some area’s. They announced back in early Dec the 8-10 million dollar investment of equipment to ramp up production at least 40%, so that simply means they have to add head count. So even if orders are down in 273, across both Generators and turbines, there is a uptick in sold orders for Greenville that are made in 66. The very building the union likes to deny is the future of Schenectady, thats ok though, the truth loves to prove the union officials wrong, all the time.
@1mya+1evzdM5z. The union is for those that have no dkills, and are therefore doomed to a life of menial tasks. Those with a skill are marketable and worth the monies they're paid. It's the $30 per hour unskilled knuckle dragging slugs that need union protection, like those in the hall. We'd all be better off without the unions "services".
I don't understand Schenectady's love affair with the union. Seems like the Union is a thing of the past. Worthless and a waste of money.
