I make a lot on paper but not so great when you break down average hourly. Starting at call time 2 hr call to get to work 12 hrs pay for around $500 then 16 hrs in a motel (not being paid) then 2 hr call back home for another $500 for a total of a $1,000 bucks. Not counting each call time I take and add all the hours they own me which is 12+12+the 16 I’m not being paid = 40 hrs 1,000/40 = like 25 an hr or less if you count each 2 hr call time. So yeah not really that great usually doing 2 trips a week for about an 80 hr work week. Not really that great.
LOL I'm having a hard time understanding what "offer" you received to be an "engineer" IF that offer is for a "locomotive engineer" at UPRR.
Are they hiring loco engineers off the street again or still promoting thru TE&Y like every other property?
You get paid for the jobs you work per the agreement, and you should know this so this must be a troll post.
If you're trying to compare what a short line is offering you, to class 1 ENG wages, you're going to be disappointed.
How much did the UP lowball offer?
I made $126k this year.
UP Eng that's forced to hostile for years. 55k. Did it for 20 years. Might have enough seniority to hold the road year round now.
Giving a average doesn’t do you much good, it all depends on where you work. The agreements for some locations are great, not do much for others. I know engineers that work in the yard that make 70k per year. I also know engineers that top 200k (although this isn’t the norm). For generalization purposes, road engineers usually make somewhere between 120k and 180k per year if they stay marked up.
Don’t do it. Just don’t.
"engineer" ?
You certainly don't mean "locomotive engineer"?
And yes, if the offer is from UP it is most certainly a "LowBall" offer, run.
I got an offer and it feels like they're low-balling me.
