Thread regarding Macy's Inc. layoffs

Macy's is the devil I know

I'd love to get a better job, but there are so many unknowns at new companies. I know of people who left thinking they were going for greener pastures and ended up in the same if not even worse situations than here. At least I know Macy's well enough to know what to expect. It's not bad enough yet for me to risk "the devil I don't know."

LOL you sound like a scary person. The devil

Worked at a "sister store" before I was laid-off during the pandemic. I felt the same way you do: I had become comfortable with my routine,
even felt a sense of job security, but ultimately knew that I wasn't going anywhere. Well, I am happy to report I now have a new job and a new career; it took a long while, with a job search that preceded the pandemic, numerous interviews ( I felt like giving up at times ) and sheer persistence. I am now in a much better position, going in a completely opposite direction from retail. I might also add that I am older and faced a number of obstacles during my job search. My best advice is to hang in there and upgrade your skills to make yourself more marketable; above all, don't give up.

Macy’s is trying to hire young people but young people don’t want to work for a dowdy company like Macy’s. I went to the Nike and UA outlets and they have associates bumping into each other. They certainly do not have a hiring problem.
With Macy’s trying to hire youth they are screwing the older people. I am waiting for a major age discrimination lawsuit to hit this unethical company.
Look at all the managers they hire. They are all youngsters and have no idea what they are doing, they have no intentions of doing any physical work, they are always taking mental health days off from what I don’t know. They walk around smiling and say they coach people who have been there 20 years.
Really? Get a clue Jr. do some work and get some experience.
We should really ask HR why they do not hire older people as managers. I bet they would struggle to answer that question.

Here’s an idea…start your own company and make yourself rich! I’m currently working on that because there is no future with Macy’s. They’re a big tree that will fall!!

I have to agree and this was why being unionized is better because it is based on seniority. It is extremely unethical to hire new people and give them more money and it’s not even a little, some of them getting paid $4-5 more than what the long term are making. That’s a travesty and really delivering the message that you do not care about your employees and you’re just all talk with our employees are all important to us. It’s all BS. And then considering they make the long term employees do all the work and the new hires just ring on the register all day makes it even more unfair. And now they gonna have a new plan to sc--w over employees by cutting off full time since they have decided to raise the wage to $15 for everyone in May.

Macy’s is the devil period.
All the other major retailers raised their wages and did not sc--w their loyal long term employees. The new hires are making 15 but they paid their long term folks 16 to 18 in accordance with the new pay structure. They didn’t tell their loyal long term employees to wait eight months and then we will make you equal with the new hires. And then Macy’s management lies about the pay scale to boot.
Macy’s is the devil being led by the king devil Jeff Gannet. This is by far the most unethical retailer in the country.
It is a shame that every day Macy’s is losing good people and the company doesn’t seem to care
