Thread regarding ExxonMobil Singapore layoffs

Why are we considered so expensive for the company?

We always hear the general argument that layoffs and cuts happen because the company is moving our jobs to markets with cheaper labor. While the fact that they are guided by that reason, I’m not sure I can agree with it even one bit.
Interact with people at the company from other parts of the world an It looks to me like they have similar earnings, of course compared to similar positions here. Isn’t the labor in the US and Australia also considered expensive? We don’t see these percentages of layoffs compared to the total amount of workers at those places. We also don’t see these kinds of effort to propel attrition. There has to be more to this.
