Severance package

I am wondering if long time employees with multiple decades of service with CVS at closing stores and not wanting to transfer to another location, will be offered some kind of severance package to thank them for loyalty and dedication to CVS.

I'd like to know this as well. Is there anybody who knows somebody from a closed location who might know first-hand if this is offered?

When scheduler's were eliminated, I got severance when I opted not to apply for the DPC role. I had to bug the s*** out of HR, advice and council and anyone else who would listen to get an answer on whether we got it our not. Glad to get it but it was no where close to the years of service I put in.

Never count on severance. Ever.

  • Companies aren't required to offer severance,
  • Even if a company does, they leave themselves many loopholes that allow them to avoid paying,
  • Even if none of the loopholes apply, a company might be too broke to pay it (see: WeWork)
  • Even if the company has money, it is very likely that you will be forced to sign some bu-----t agreement you'd rather not sign to get it

The only thing you can count on is accrued PTO. Always budget for a severance of exactly $0. Any "well, yeah, but in my case..." thinking is extremely self-destructive. This is cold logic, there is zero empathy.

Promise yourself that you will prepare for a $0 severance. Your future self will be very thankful.

I work at a tech company that values its workers, and even there you don't get severance if you refuse a reasonable transfer.

Every store that has closed the staff was offered severance but it’s not much

No. Severance costs too much $$. They’ll fire you prior to closing stores
