Thread regarding Citrix Systems Inc. layoffs

When to put in your 2 week notice?

Do you put it in once you get the written offer? Or once the background check clears? I’m a straight arrow so no concern
Of it coming back with concerns.

What do others do?

Hold off on notice until after the New Year. See how the possible Elliot LBO plays out for possible RSU stock vesting.

  1. Check state laws. In many cases you aren't compelled to give 2 weeks notice. If you don't feel you can leverage your current manager to provide references in the future, give them 1 week.
  1. I personally like to wait till after a security check. Mostly because some very sloppy book keeping at a previous employer has created some confusion I've had to clear up past employment dates with past w4 & pay records. Easy to do, but could be a pain if you have to scramble for such records, so have those in your back pocket prior to resigning.
  1. If possible, take time off. I did after the toxicity of the Raleigh office. I was glad I did.

Don't. Milk Citrix for a second paycheck as long as you can get away with it.

  1. Get job, go through process, background check, etc., etc. and get an official offer letter with start date
  1. Take a couple of weeks of PTO from Citrix beginning on the start date of your new job
  1. if the new job is going well after that couple of weeks, then you drop your notice when your PTO at Citrix ends. Give ONE WEEK or less. You are not required to give any amount of notice.

I've seen people get a new job and resign from their current role only to have the the new company renege/rescind the offer a couple of days before their start date. It happens.

After the background check is clear.

I changed recently. Put in my notice when I got the all-clear from the background check. Didn’t expect anything out of the ordinary with the background check. But it did take longer than I was expecting- 10 working days - maybe because the agency was backed up with requests. The Great Resignation has been good for them.
I do regret not taking a longer break between jobs. 3 weeks at the new place and I was back at “normal” levels of busyness (though 10000x happier than I was at Citrix). Take a long break if you can. It’s the only time you can truly be “off work”.

I would also recommend that you take some time off between the jobs. More than anything it will allow for leaving any negativity and toxicity behind. And at Citrix these are aplenty due to incompetency at management and leadership levels.

I would not put in your notice until you get a start date at your new employer. Your new employer should understand and will be willing to work with you on your start date. .
