Thread regarding Saudi Aramco layoffs

Who will be leaving in January when the bonus vests?

I know two in Finance, plus a third when school is over in the Summer. January of 2021 was really big, but January 2022 could be a record breaker. Not sure who (if anyone) will show up to replace them. Seems like the company is basically downsizing by attrition, leaving more and more work for those that are left. Aramco is probably using the same bunch of consultants who advise Exxon on their HR strategy.

Not to state the obvious, but if the Eastern European has the same qualifications, well then why is he working for $36K per year?

The company has tried that with multiple nationalities and came back to trying to hire US expats. Why is that?

And the kicker is, most of the better "nationalities" quit for US based jobs. Go figure.

Eventually the company will figure out that the more loyal employees are the ones they are laying off. Go figure that one.

Yeah, the Company can find ten times cheaper contractors with same or similar qualifications. For instance there is a position where an expat has 360 k USD per year, plus many benefits, whereas an Ukrainian contractor is motivated to work for 36 k. Hello, ten times cheaper!!! 10 for one!

US Expats are lazy and incompetent and the Company is tired of their loud (foul) 👄.

An employee only needs to be on the payroll March 1st and receive an acceptable PMP to receive a bonus. The SAIP was a plan to reduce attrition and lessen future pension benefits by lowering the annual raises.

Forget them, the root of the problem is not about are they going to take 10 times cheaper contractor or not. Anyway the contractor will do the job, same as any expat. They don't need expats in times when the marked is flooded with jobless. You guys are very very replacable, and honestly I haven't met any super genious there. Mostly pretenders and mediocre performers. The root of Aramco problems is somewhere else and they will sooner or later feel it.

I'd say Aramco will learn the hard way, but it is probably more accurate to say Aramco never learns.

It's not an issue of qualifications or even degrees. It has to do with how you use them.

Your cheaper expat hires and your contractors wait for their local boses to tell them what to do. So nothing tends to get done or is done very slowly. Even the contractors tend to get wrong directions.

Previously, the western expats were hired because of their experience in getting things done with only minor direction.

Sadly, that is no longer the case.

You are still at Aramco March 1st if you resign in January. 60 day notice.

I haven't seen many experienced local hires in Finance. Just PDPs.

It is not in January, to be elegible to receive SAIP bonus you need to be active in March 1st. So a lot of people wait till receive bonus and repat vacation to quit. Best advice take repat before that. If you are lay off without taking repat even if is approved you will lost a huge amount of money. Expected attrition season is during summer when kids ends their school as well. That is the ideal plan but under current situation people is leaving any time.
