Because the have headhunters, Recruiters, or whatever they bill them under that they hire in through third party companies. That paints a million dollar picture of how the company is turning around and about to be the Greatest American Retailer again. A few take the bait. Is not just sears doing this.

To the poster below, OK, fair point. She was a new hire. But anyone, in 2021, who signs on to Sears, as a new hire, probably has bigger problems than Sears laying them off. I mean, why would someone apply there? What's next? People applying for jobs at Radio Shack, Blockbuster or Bennigans? What do they expect, a long and prosperous career? There are tons of jobs out there. Target, Wally, Costco, etc., can't beg people hard enough to work there, and they Pay a lot. Why would anyone in their right mind apply at Sears, of all places?

I don’t think she would have been as upset if she had been there long enough to draw (UI). Sounds like they were all new hires that were training for a test and the division was cut.

Honestly who cares? I don't see what the big deal is. If I was being laid off, they could do it in person, by zoom, by phone, by fax, or by carrier pigeon. Who cares? Because my next 2 stops would be the Unemployment office, then the nearest Watering Ho-e to celebrate my emancipation/Paid vacation.
The last thing I would concern myself with, is their method of doing it. Either way I can draw my UI and celebrate.
Remember those stories about Br'er rabbit? Oh please don't throw me on the briar patch (because that was his easy way of escaping)! That would be me. Oh please don't lay me off, because that would be (ahem) SOOOOOOO terrible. Please don't do it. I'll (cough-cough) suffer so much. Wink wink.

Those in the conference will soon follow her out the door and they know it. You may not realize it at the moment, but Sears letting you go is for the best. I wish I had left long before I was let go, a lesson learned the hard way.

Don't let them see you cry or lose your emotional control. Some sociopaths enjoyed to see you suffer under theirs power. Some are good people that just have to do theirs job. Life is not fair, move on.

She should have looked up the whole CA law of being paid the day you are fired. Hope sears holds paycheck for months since penalty for not paying them that day is only a days pay for up to 30 days. Sure that the email that came at time of termination had a clause about posting company business information on social media. Hope sears takes her to court and wins.

I can't believe anyone would think that a job with Sears in 2021 would be in any way stable or guaranteed.

That one guy who kept drinking his coffee and looking out the window like it was no big deal. Insensitive pr1ck looked like he couldn't care less what happened to the people being laid off!

Just look at what this company has done to its employees, customers, vendors, investors, creditors, etc. This should come as no surprise to anyone. If the company can ever turn around, they need to ditch the "Sears" name........just a disgusting taste left in everyone's mouth now.

This is the reason why companies want folks back in the office. Sure people can still record personal meetings on their phones and such - but it will be much harder to do in the office with everyone around you.

I don’t know what’s more horrifying here. Is it the fact that Sears did this via Zoom or is it the fact the lady talking in the video thought that taking a job at Sears was a good move in the first place. I’m thinking the latter.
