Thread regarding Macy's Inc. layoffs

Opportunities Galore

Considering one of the many opportunities at Macy's? Are you being asked to relocate your life and family for a place in a growing company? Are you considering buying into the "Industry Leader" drivel from your DVP or RDOS who are desperate to fill positions in expensive markets without actually offering a living wage? Don't give into the pressure until you consider what "growth and opportunities" look like at Macy's, just look at some of these headlines since 2015.

On August 11, 2016, Macy's announced that it would close another 100 stores in early 2017 and cut more than 10,000 jobs.

On August 21, 2017, Macy's announced it was restructuring its merchandise organization resulting in 100 layoffs.

On March 2, 2018, Macy's announced that it would lay off a significant number of HR resources staff as part of a larger restructuring as they transitioned to a new HR system.

On February 4, 2020, Macy's announced it plans to shut 125 stores over the coming three years and slash and additional 2000 corporate jobs.

Keep in mind that the layoffs you shared are only the ones they had to disclose. Several years ago Macy’s began departmental layoffs, doing so allowed them to slide under the radar and created less bad press. In seeing the images that all the overly eager store teams are posting to LinkedIn, I pause and wonder if photo waivers were signed? Pretty creepy to be posting pictures of kids without permission.

This " Crackerjack Company" ha ha love that one ! is a lying , deceitful back stabbing company with zero morals only what is the bottom line.. 10 million to BLM matter for what ? BLM has nothing to do with selling cr.a.ppy clothing. Jeff the CEO who is moral broke also lets go 130k employees and him and his board of criminals get a 9 million dollar bonus. also what cheesy company puts out money from AP trying to catch its employees they think are stealing? What i found working for macys for 8 yrs is AP is the biggest crooks in the building.. not all of them but I've seen AP guys get caught stealing boxes of underwear lol Yes underwear !! and robbing perfume and other items One thing i notice that was common with all these Ap crooks is they are all over zealous and constantly blaming others in the stores for theft. even writing reports on that person and opening "investigations " Ap all have big egos for a peanuts paying job.. a lot of them are mental cases ( not all some a great ) just love having power over someone which is why they should never become more than Mall cops. Macys is only raising the pay because its socially expectable to do so now because other retailers are doing it trust me they do not want to pay you anymore than 10 bucks and have you work like your a dog .. everyone should organize a walk out to protest the unrealistic and low pay of this never ending stressful sweat shop and let it hit the news than Jeff and a his bonus buddies will get a clear message.

laid off 130,000 workers in June... did you expect the company to bring everyone in to closed locations... I think there was a global pandemic happening... side, note 95% of those folks made just as much on unemployment just to stay home... I get some of the complaints, but come on, have some sense

The only thing that made Macy’s profits look good this year is that they have been operating short staffed all year. This saved Macy’s hundred’s of millions in payroll dollars.
They didn’t have a plan to hire for the holidays. Every other major retailer increased wages earlier in the year and are now in better staffing position than Macy’s.
Macy’s panicked and in early November announced in a press release they were raising minimum pay to 15.00 in May for current employees but are now trying to hire seasonal’s at 15.00. It was on national news. Even the local news announcer commented let’s see how that is going to work . Long term employees working alongside new hires who are being paid more.
Macy’s management and HR deny this but yet new hires are bragging that they are making $15. The temps from a temp service are bragging they make $18 an hour. Again Macy’s management denies this.
On November 8 Macy’s is posting jobs on various job boards starting at $16.00. But yet again they deny it. I guess there must be a Poltergeist posting jobs for Macy’s .
Macy’s is the most unethical retailer in the country. They make me sick with their morning rah rah rallies about how much we are appreciated. Stop lying and pay your employee’s fairly and you won’t need rah-rah rallies.
Can’t wait to see the shortage. People are walking out with bundles of merchandise and AP is not allowed to stop them. What kind of a Crackerjack company do we work for.
Hopefully I will be out of this he’ll ho-e in January and won’t have to live through another year of cut hours and job elimination. It’s coming folks it always does. But Jeff Gannett and his cronies will get their millions in bonuses. Totally unethical company.

Every year just seems to get worse. As a former employee there were a few times positions were brought up to me in other regions which i turned down each time. Relocating when your children are still young and in school is very difficult. You have to think of your spouse and children first unless you’re young and single and can move for other “better” positions that usually only serve the company and not really you. Someone i helped train did that and ended up coming back to my area within 2 years then got a really great job with another company. Keep looking around usually really good opportunities happen when you least expect it.
