Thread regarding Optum layoffs

Toxic Culture and Discrimination

I've worked for this company for over 10 years and I would never refer someone to work here. They downgrade you and work you perform by calling you out in team meetings. The discrimination is bad... Not worth it

thanks so much for the advice on my dad who gave his all to the company, they canned him without notice. Told him to sign the NDA, collect the measily severance, and move on, .... and then he said no way, he's fighting it. Ageism and firing without cause. Tried to tell him it may be lost cause but he's adamant on fighting this injustice.

They represent only 4.5% of the world's population, yet consume over 80% of Rx anti-psychotic, psychiatric medicines. Why? Hmm...

The person who said no one wins discrimination cases against UHC/OPTUM must be from legal or HR and are trying discourage people filing. Them winning is false. The reason no one knows it because they have been able to-date to keep it quiet. Paid off people. If you feel you have been discriminated against by this corporation and have documented proof do not be afraid to hire an Employment issues attorney for protection. Do not sign any documents from the company that deny you your legal rights. If they want you to sign anything of that nature it indicates they are doing wrong. This corp is already rampant with fraud. Just google the suit they lost with the feds and you will see. The lost and must pay out 15 billion+.

Bollywood in the hyper capitalistic empire. What a dump. A life of emptiness. Dollar catchers, and shop keepers. Nothing more.

This is what happens when you have a bunch of Indian managers running things. Yes-men willing to do scr3w over anyone and throw anyone under the bus to save themselves and advance in rank to continue the cycle at a higher paygrade.

Have your father sign the NDA. This way he will receive the severance pay. There’s no way to win an age discrimination lawsuit with UHG/Optum. They hire hardcore attorneys for this and the attorneys will win. I’ve watched this play out with former colleague. Made it to trial but did not win. Had to speak to one of the attorneys and they are hardcore and will do whatever it takes to get a win for UHG. They are the untouchables. He will find something better.

in my short time working there I remember the guy I work with next to me looked like he had PTSD symptoms and looked like an abused dog you'd see at the shelter. So sad

The morale is low has always been low but even more so now. When you call to other departments you can tell they don't want to be there. It's a sad atmosphere and everyone should expect to be let go if you refuse to do more work for same or less pay. Just the way it is.

My dad just called to say he was fired-terminated-laid off. He was loyal for over 20 years, he in his 60s. They couldn't even wait until after the holidays.

I know this is a good time to be looking for work in general, but at his age it feels hopeless. He's slower, he's not as tech savvy, as the younger people etc. Now my parents don't have health insurance. They barely had any savings because of all their debts to live.

They said he'd been on probation, but they never told him this and there's no written record or anything?! Crazy.

They are asking him to sign an NDA not to badmouth them or sue to get a couple months of severance, a pittance. . He should probably sign it, right? Any other thoughts/advice/compassion/words to live by? Thank you. It's so sad to work, be loyal, and have no options as an elderly person.

I agree. The culture is very toxic and discriminatory. They talk about diversity but I just don’t see it unless they mean majority of staff is from different areas of India?

The only discrimination I witnessed was against the Unjabbed. The lawsuits are going to destroy the company. Why all of a sudden do Americans think their government is there to help keep them safe from the flu? Wake up.

Truly a POS company. Don't they know leaders cannot be groomed with a training manual? People are either born to lead or not.

"Calling you out in team meetings".
I don't work for Optum, but gotz to say this is chronic everywhere.

The only training of 'Managers' in most businesses today is based on which Office Sitcoms they've imbibed over the years. And what one could call 'Seinfeld' respect.

Next time you (or any other person) is called out for a mistake or failed effort in one of your team meetings - simply mention to the 'Manager' that the nature of business is to learn from mistakes, not to be a mistake with no learning.
And his/her momma, too.
