Then why are people waiting for rumors about layoffs to start preparing in case they are possibly targeted?

It's like an abusive relationship for some of us, we've been here for so long we don't believe we're worth hiring somewhere else. It's twisted but true.
How many of us are well stocked with food and weapons and ammunition?
It's easy to become comfortable and complacent and think these times will go on as they have been. Human nature, I guess.
