Thread regarding Lowe's Cos. layoffs

Why are full-timers being fired?

We don't have enough people as it is, now I find out that two full-timers at my store have been fired last week. Are they now trying to get rid of all full-timers and staff the stores exclusively with part-timers? Something like that wouldn't come as much of a surprise with this management.

At our store we are rebelling and hiring almost all FT people.

Because the Lowes board of executives are money hungry small hat wearing parasites who want to leech every penny out of the company before they liquidate its assets and sell to Walmart
In order to do this they have to minimize the payroll to their wage slaves (you).
They do this and get away with it because they know their slaves are scared eunuchs that will bend over willingly to allow themselves to be penetrated in their nether regions by corporate vultures.

I mean let’s face it who really even cares anymore I’m full time and I know I can change in the blink of an eye so why worry I don’t let stuff stress me out anymore the company doesn’t care about me then I just come into my job and go home let them handle the stress

It's your store. My store has numerous ft openings.

They are doing the Target model. Only management in stores are full time.

It seems like I'm a Lifer . I remember way back when Lowe's got rid of the ops. managers and the depart. managers for the first time. What 9 or 10 years ago. That's what they said way back when. Nothing has changed.

The previous posters are correct—the current direction is to sharply reduce ft positions through attrition and hire pt/temp during the spring staff-up with 75-25 ratio being the new baseline, regardless of sales tier. I was in our store on Saturday and I was absolutely shocked at the lack of staff in the aisles. I walked the entire race track and saw two red vests during peak hours. Two. We are transforming into a ‘self-serve’ business which will not work in home improvement retail IMO.

They want a 3-1 PT/FT ratio in the stores. The way you get there is make every position part-time except management and maybe a few other positions. That is the plan. If you want full-time then basically you’ll have to take on a management role eventually.

That is indeed the plan. Firing a full-time equates to not having to pay medical benefits, not having to pay out as large of a working-together bonus, and having the ability to cut back or increase hours at-will. Plus no, or barely any overtime for PT. Additionally, they typically hire two PTers for every FT let go. That means technically more employees but ones that you'll barely ever see
