Here's a relevant fact. In 2015 IBM had a mandatory 2 day program for FLMs in which they were trained and certified to interview and manage Millennials. The stage was being set.

Overt and blatant age discrimination has been a staple at IBM for decades. It's all the more galling when you had a good career going, but got swallowed up by IBM whose incompetent management proceeded to royally sc--w up your former company, and then you get forced out because some clown in HR decides you're getting paid "too much". Some pretty messed up stuff's been going on at IBM for a long time ... and now it's all collapsing like a house of cards. You reap what you sow.
