Thread regarding Macy's Inc. layoffs

Full-time positions

Since it’s quite obvious that Macy’s wants to get rid of full-time positions, I wonder if Macy’s future is completely without FT positions? Maybe they think that everything can work without FT people? If they cut my hours, I'll give notice right away. This company is going in the very wrong direction in my opinion.

Did you post that on the Lowes page too? Again all retail have a FT/PT goal.

It's pretty bewildering that I state a simple fact that I worked 12 to 16 hours to point out that I did as much time and worked as hard as everyone else (which in a normal sense isn't bragging at all) but just defining the even playing field. Most of the responders are negative to a tee and if anyone has anything good to say about the company you try to put them in a ho-e because it doesn't match your agenda. It seems you're pretty incapable of reading between the lines and seeing what was really being said in the posts so I won't even waste my time responding after this. Hopefully you personally get what you want and get laid off or just quit and find another job. This company needs people who actually want to make a difference and try to make a difference, not a negative mindset like yours where everything that happens in Macy's is detrimental to your life and existence no matter what. Bye Bye

All retail stores have a goal on FT and PT associates.

Well I think it's hilarious that the poster below is bragging about doing "12 to 16 hour nights for 6 days, not 5" of inventory as if he is some kind of company hero and better than everyone else.

Keep drinking that, Kool-Aid! You're not a hero, you are not superior. You are a fool.

You just made my point hahah. Just because I make a comment about how my district or region did for inventory doesn't mean I'm a regional lmao. I worked every single night of inventory, 12 to 16 hour nights for 6 days, not 5. The fact that I even have to sit here and defend myself because you assume I'm a regional based off positive results in a company you're complaining about is astonishing. I care about the results of the inventory, so, it really is NOT difficult to do the research and read the results to see who did well, who met goal, and who missed by how much. It's sad that you can bash someone who put in the time, worked every night to do as much as they can to show growth/proper operations in their store so the company can continue to grow jobs and not decimate them. Keep complaining about how much time and work you put in on an internet thread, there are thousands of others who did just as you and I and they aren't on here complaining. Calling me a regional, this has definitely made me laugh today so thank you!! Hilarious. Some of you have some seriously negative outlooks on a lot of things and should certainly look into what the main causes of those are because they don't all come from your job.

Very entertaining. Sounds like Macy’s needs some to do some damage control. Treat your employees honestly and fairly and then all would be well.

I have notice this week after 16 years and I couldn’t be happier. They had the audacity to ask what can we do ? I simply smiled and said absolutely nothing you have done enough already.

Oh my! 😯 I can’t believe what I just read. It sounds like a regional is taking credit for how hard the stores employees worked this season.

Shameful! Now I am just curious.
What exactly did this regional do you help the inventory?

The last comment by one of the many useless regionals must have struck a cord. Instead of posting on this site you would be better off rolling up your sleeves and doing some physical work in one of your stores.
You people walk into the stores as if you are walking on water. You are all useless and need to learn how to manage, work and contribute to the company.

The inventory results are a disaster? Speak for yourself. Certain stores I'm sure had inventory issues (especially those without AP, but more stores than not have AP and an APM). My entire region had positive results on both shortage goal and reserve goal. It's a disaster that you would come onto an internet thread and try to sell cheap deceitful information haha...this site used to be positive and only talk about rumors on new or leaving positions, now all anyone does is cry and complain about their lives and jobs as if it's going to change anything. Whatever floats your boats and helps you sleep at night I guess.

A lot of complaining on this thread. FT hours have been cut in January/February the last few years because business is slow. With the amount of open jobs in many locations it won't be difficult to keep your 40 hours. Benefits are only affected if you're not meeting hourly requirements for large amounts of weeks at a time; in the end it goes by how many average hours you work after X amount of weeks, not what you're scheduled. Most of these threads are just bashing the company which is funny because instead of making a change in your life (that you keep saying you should make) you come on here and bash a company that most of you are still employed with. This is the same story every year yet people like to talk it up like it's new news. I would take any bet with anyone who actually believes Macy's will go 100% PT ever. In most retailers it's hard to find that many good FT employees to begin with because of their excessive call outs or issues with the schedules. If you have such an issue for the company why become such a keyboard warrior and bash them on the internet? Make a change for yourself if you really feel that way and do something about it.

Macy’s day of reckoning is fast approaching. The inventory results are disastrous. Management ignored the daily theft that occurs in the stores.

The ignorance of the regional visits and inept store leaders has created a toxic environment that store associates will no longer tolerate.

Now with all of the impending changes on top of Macy’s unethical practice of paying new hires more than long term associates people are resigning in droves. You can only treat people poorly for so long before they give you the middle finger🖕. I am concerned that Macy’s is broken beyond repair. It is time to jump ship.

I'm guessing that Macy's will go 100% part - time by end of this year except for commission associates.

The last holiday luncheon we had was probably 3 years ago. And it was BYOD (bring your own dish). The store didnt spend a dime. And the store manager couldn’t even be bother to be there.

Target went to 100% part time, but does an excellent job working with the team member to meet their desired hours. If your want FT target will do their best to give you FT hours. Recently expanded their health benefits, offering to anyone averaging 25h/week. $15/hour right in the door, and will offer more with 2+ years experience.

Macys is trash. No one in a store matters to Macys. No divisional or regional executive will ever truly value or respect a store colleague. They have let their ego cloud their vision and believe they are above everyone.

Priorities are F’ed up there. Why does a company care more about the positioning of a mannequin, using the most recent “hot words”, or shoving a useless credit card with no actual benefits and a cr-p interest rate down the customers throat more than the happiness and well being of their “colleagues”.

Come work where you’ll be appreciated, and respected.

People looking for jobs are attracted to pay and benefits. Macy’s needs to be competitive with these offerings to get good employees. Target may be more attractive to someone because they have more locations which could mean more advancement opportunities even if you start out part time.

Someone said holiday luncheon? We did NOT even get a holiday luncheon. They gave us some cheap mugs that say Macys filled with 1 small chocolate inside 🤣. No Macys money, nothing. And I work in one of the top performing stores in the company. Cheap, cheap. We don’t even get Christmas bonuses.

This is what's i think they are doing.. they are going to raise the pay in may to 15 dollars a hr .. they cant afford to do this so how they make it look good to general public and investors is they quietly start letting go FT people or cutting their hours so bad that its not even worth it ..plus you may loose your benefits. its all to shine the shoes to make it look good to people who wont look hard into this.. FT is going and it prolly will start going before May... by the end of the year it may be gone all together.. do not trust shady Macys

Did you forget that last year they cut commission positions in clothing and RTW? They laid off some cosmetic associates and cut commissions.
You must be one of the do nothing regionals trying to defend this unethical company.
I guess you think it is ok to pay new hires more than tenured associates as well.
Yesterday’s big hiring event speaks to what people hunk of Macy’s. Macy’s had a party and nobody came.

It happen to Target employees, once Target raise the minimum wage to $15 per hour all full timers hours were cut. Basically they went to part timers like 20 hours per week and on weekends the employees get a extra $1 or $2 per every hour they work on Friday, Saturday and Sunday. The way I see it Macy's is following the same path of Target, adding central check out stations, selling and support associates working as a one team. Both companies have a fulfilment team too.

Come on people, be positive about Macy's hourly colleagues future. Hourly budgets are out and they have more FT/VC than in 2021. FT/VC are not going away in the near future. They actually invested/added in Vendor Paid positions in some stores. Beauty is increasing or staying the same, select stores (of all volumes, including small ones, based on Beauty penetration, are getting a Beuty Merchandiser). There is not a big difference than before, more FT/VC than PT and the reductions are thru attrition. Salaried positions, no news yet.

They are cutting FT hours but they will keep the USELESS regional positions.
This goes t show you just how screwed up this company really is.

I wonder if they are going to cut the fancy lunch budgets for the regional visits. They should feed the regionals the same slop that they gave us for the holiday luncheon.

They’re reducing full time from 5 days to 4 days. Only problem is if you have benefits like insurance you have to meet the requirements for how many hours you have to work in order to be qualified for benefits. So if you have insurance with Macys, you have to find and pick up a 5th day shift. SMH they don’t wanna give benefits so prolly trying to get rid people of their benefits. Very shady.
