Thread regarding CVS layoffs

Is the grass really much greener?

I keep hearing stories about people who have left and are now much better paid, have better benefits, less stress etc. These are people I don't know. On the other hand, the people I know and have been in contact with since they left don't have such ideal stories. Some of them are doing a little better than before, but far from ideal and what they were looking for.

Even if the next place you go is the same as CVS in terms of working conditions, you're still ahead with better pay to go with the mediocrity.

Yup, if there ever was a time to leave its now with so many job opportunities available. Retail and the companies who treat their employees badly will be the ones in the end left with a mediocre to poor work force. This is just the beginning.

The answer is to get out of retail all together. If you have a degree stop wasting it. Find a job in your field. If you do not then take advantage of CVS tuition reimbursement and discounted college partners. Wait it out and use this company benefit to get yourself the education necessary to advance elsewhere. There is NO future in retail period. You will always be free labor, worked to death and abused. If you are an “up and coming shift/ops, recent colleague grad etc, Don’t be stupid. Get out. Don’t let them rope you into this with promises of money and opportunity. It is a dead end job and before you know it you would have wasted years with only small 3% raises (if you are lucky) that do not even keep pace with cost of living to show for it. Retail is dying and companies with part time labor models are in deep trouble and they know it. You cannot obtain or sustain professional business results with an unprofessional work force. You as a store manager or pharmacy manager will be the only “business professional” in the store and your success depends on the uneducated and undereducated part time work force. Impossible
