Thread regarding Macy's Inc. layoffs

Anything will be better than retail soon

The current and future of retail is part time, open availability, with no benefits. It's basically becoming unskilled labor. Fast food pays better.

This is perfectly put. Anybody who is still working in retail should be looking to get out as soon as possible. Retail used to have some advantages but at this rate, it'll be the least desirable job very soon.

Agree.

They won’t announce a change like this. They will simply keep up the trend of replacing newly vacant full time positions with part time. With the less than desirable schedules, workload, etc., many full timers are leaving anyway.

If you look at the last few years, you’ll notice that the positions eliminated (FSA, Assembly) or phased out (PSC, RTM), were largely filled with long time associates. Ones who were full time and had more vacation time, built up sick time, and higher wages. Most of those associates are now gone.

When they let our FSA go, they told her she could only get hired back on if she signed away her seniority. She had around 15 years with the company at that point. She declined.

This is a model all of retail is following: Push out long standing associates with bogus policy changes or ridiculous scheduling, increase in responsibilities, things of that nature.

Honestly, Lowe’s is now appealing to a different kind of employee. Ones who respond well to the “slip and fall kraken” and designing their stars in AP4ME. I got tired of the cartoons and group stretching. It made me feel like a child…not an adult who was hired to work in a warehouse environment. I knew Lowe’s was a lost cause when I saw a post on Reddit demanding the actual policy on if ladders should be locked while not in use because this persons entire store didn’t know.

Haven’t heard anything about FT going. It’s almost February, you’d think they would let us know about the changes before the new fiscal year starts 😏

Costco, Walmart, and Amazon may be the few to give benefits unless you are in a full time management position at the rest.
