Thread regarding 3M layoffs

There is no interest in innovation anymore?

Judging by the structure of employees affected by these layoffs, one comes to a conclusion that this company no longer needs research and innovation. It is a clear sign that we are on a steep downward trajectory and that it can only get worse here. I'm leaving at the first opportunity.

Unless you are ready to join management ranks immediately after your first promotion, don't bother to stay here. Almost any other career track, esp. technical track, offers little opportunities for any meaningful career advancement.

It is such an irony that a company that prides itself on it's connection to science and technology has so little to offer to the people actually doing science, technology and engineering in 3M these days.

Some of the acquisitions offered opportunity but execution weak and no one held responsible.

There is little interest in innovation .. these days internally and none of the recent acquisitions brought new opportunities either.. most of the competitors are doing something to move ahead..we are trying to cost save our way .. very short term defensive game..

3M's innovation is on life support and the executives are pulling the plug as we speak. They literally think 5% spend on R&D is too much.
