Thread regarding Verizon Wireless layoffs

Massive layoffs coming - Retail/SMB handing off to indirect

You will start seeing the changes in March and by year end the goal is to have 75-80% of stores turned into indirect agents. SMB team as a whole will be gone as will the majority of retail by year end.

Some truth to this. The agents are building out their own SMB and B2B programs. They have tried in the past but there are some legs now. Agents had their best quarter ever in SMB 2021. Also, they are getting more access similar to retail. I don’t know the timeline, but they gutted the IAM last year and kept a few a rolled them into retail. Retail is short staffed currently. Tmo and ATT already has a Omni experience. Get those resumes ready sooner or later for everyone.

Down voted because only a retail bonehead would ask that here. Severance information is available on VZ web. Go look it up.

How can a true statement be downvoted? Answering a question about the severence package that Verizon gives out? The people or team from the company must be so despicable and anti retail (store)employee, the down votes show how they really care about the fronline. I can see how the op statement could be true in this horrible culture.

not sure where these cuts are supposed to be made. retail at least, is already down to its last few strongholds. especially after the last round of cuts before covid went into full effect. in the words of the ironborn, what is dead may not die.

Why you all waiting for a severance? 2 weeks a year ain't going to change your life. After they tax that sheet ain't going to be jack squat. Then you all will just squander the rest on leasing a BMW for one of your babies mommas. What a joke just quit. Your Walmart dream job awaits.

For those who are saying there are several open Positions. Back when they laid off assistant managers and ops that worked in store, Verizon was still hiring people to fill those positions and three weeks later let them go. Job openings mean nothing to Verizon.

Pretty much anyone that is left who has been with the company prior to the pandemic is praying and hoping for a severance. Lol me as one of them

This process has been slowly happening for the last five years. Some places like here in Atlanta have just a couple of corporate owned stores remaining. It is all based on what the partner companies are ready to take on financially. They are paying us a lot to do this.

2 weeks of pay for every year worked and the same amount of weeks of Verizon benefits.

Does anyone know the formula VZW uses for severance?

Stores getting robbed left and right. Retail clerks whining about making $60k a year plus benefits. Leases, utility expenses, liability insurance expenses. Old boomers sitting around taking up time and space but not buying anything while everyone shops online.

I don't understand why Verizon would dump this winning business model? lol...

It's bound to happen. They are so off course and blinded to reality. When the majority of DMs and above have lost touch with retail it's inevitable. Unfortunately the path they are going down is the wrong direction. They will acidentally destroy Corp retail due to Corp greed, ignorance and poor leadership. It's easy to see from within the trees but they are blinded by a forest of ego and cheered on by poor advise from "advisors" telling them what the "numbers" say. What happened to listening to people doing the job? This is a social issue between the haves and have nots.
Our leaders have become politicians and only their personal interests matter. They think they are doing right for the company and it's sad because they are so off base. They continue to go down this road and double down on "d-mb" and there will be no saving a once great infrastructured company. Because no matter how good the product, if you don't take care of the people who take care of your customers you lose. Customers have already been trained to seek out corporate stores and hide from agents. Corporate retail is the LAST refuge of problem solving. Sales incentivised agents will never provide the services that our customers require. Best network and poor customer service will lead to failure. They did not learn their covid mistakes about moving the needle too far to change retail when covid started. We had no bounce back. And yet our road map is to continue to change under the guise of "where people want to be met" based on covid rules. When you have a socialist leader from another country that doesn't understand our culture this is the result. Employees are disposable in his mind. Tell me I'm wrong. The facts are staring at you in the majority of retail stores. The proof is all around them and yet they ignore it. A book will be written about this someday. Verizon: A step by step guide on how to destroy success in America. Value your employees.

Unless they are planning on tripling their over the phone support staff, these numbers don’t add up. Customers calling in first thing in the morning are already getting 50 min wait time messages.

How would they get the same experience in indirect and corp? One works on individual sales and the other in fear of surveys. Basic economics, incentives drive behaviors. Hence why corp is getting crushed by indirect since the start of the pandemic.

This is possible perhaps because over 50+ misc indirect stores closed down across the country last week.
