Thread regarding Sears layoffs

Rank Kmarts

Let's play a useless, futile game. Let's rank the remaining 10 Kmarts by Profitability.

Obviously, just a guess on my part, but let's play:

  1. Guam (no brainer)

2-5. Some combination of the four, USVI stores (I don't Know enough about the area to figure out which ones are better or worse, so I'll just count these as numbers 2, 3, 4, & 5).

  1. Puerto Rico. Yes, PR has Walmart, but they have no Target, and I think the Hispanic population there has a bit of affinity/nostalgia for Kmart, which might keep this afloat for a while.
  2. Bridgehampton NY (apparently this store has a cult following with Rich celebrities on Eastern Long Island in Summers).

8-9. Some combination of West Wood, & Avenel (which are both, in all honesty, just interchangeable, cookie-cutter, commuter towns in NJ that most people haven't even heard of).

  1. Miami, which is walkable to Targy/Wally, so there is no way it can be Profitable.

To be clear, this is all just guessing on my part. Also, I think all the stateside stores are probably not Profitable. I was trying to just rank them by which loses the least Cash.

Marshall Mi made money hand over fist. Would’ve easily been number one of the US stores. Winter is coming.

When the QMTs were let go during the bankruptcy, the value of much of the real estate absolutely cratered. Lots of mold, rats, and other problems became rampant, on top of lawsuits with the malls because of failing to meet minimal contractual obligations, and there were issues like boilers falling into dangerous states and of course escalators and elevators that basically couldn't be fixed without using external contractors for which there was zero budget. Between this and things like no toilet paper or cleaning supplies, no wonder that sales nosedived. This carries over to the hometowns that opened in the same locations, though things like lack of inventory and word of mount about the sh*tty service with endless warranty pitches and appliances that can't get fixed for lack of parts for months and the same with deliveries. This has been Eddie's MO his whole time at Sears. If he realized that "members" were assets that need to be retained, he might have actually gotten bank. It's ironic that he closes down Sears/Kmart while losing bu-t-tons of cash while attempting to open up new retail over at Seritage while losing bu-t-tons of cash. If there's anyone who exemplifies the Peter Principle, it's him.

I had a conversation with ESL in 2012 and he said that right-sizing may look like 1000 stores or 10 stores. So I do not believe what is happening right now can be considered a failure.

What did I Say about AVENEL AND WESTWOOD BEING COMMUTER TOWNS?

https://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Avenel_station

https://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Westwood_station_(NJ_Transit)

These towns simply exist for people to take the trains to NY to work. They are not the future of Kmart (only Guam might fit that description and even that might be a stretch).

I think the territorial stores are Profitable. Less competition on the islands. And the long arm of Amazon Prime might just not reach there yet.

PR is right next to Sears. I don't Know why they have those 2 so close together anyway. They should combine those into one. I don't think any of the US based stores make Money, either.
