Thread regarding Macy's Inc. layoffs

Reduced salary

Last year they took away the commission in rtw. My manager had me sign a paper that I was agreeing to reduced my salary by 30 % due to the pandemic. She said that I didn't have a choice. Was she telling the truth ? Now the company stocks have gone up and they are doing great. They raised the salaries for new hires and are making almost the same as me. Was i lied to or did I have a choice for something else like severance pay if I had refused to accept the pay cut

I work in an union store and one of the first things the union always tells you is to NEVER sign anything!

Macy’s can do whatever they want with salaries. Not a whole lot you can do except leave. I wouldn’t have signed any agreement they cannot force you to do that.

The company is not required to offered severance. As an at-will employee, it is take it or leave it, unless you can prove you were discriminated against for age, race, religion, se-ual orientation, etc.

Not generally, no. Unless you could prove you were targeted due to some protected reason. If you're just 'one of several' this happened to, you either agree to the reduction or be terminated, if those are the choices given.
