Thread regarding Emerson Electric Co. layoffs

Too much uncertainty = no productivity

I have a feeling there are layoffs here all the time, that layoffs never stop. Perhaps it's possible to work under such stress and in such uncertainty for a while, but anyone who is marketable will not allow themselves to suffer in such working conditions.
It’s not normal for an employee to be constantly afraid of layoffs, and that’s what's happening here. How can one be productive at all in such a company?

I wondered if I was being tough on new hires when I wrote that they can't wipe their rear end without Momma...and I was chided on it a bit, but it's really true. We have had people brand new to Emerson tell us that they can't make scheduled meetings due to taking a pet to be groomed and another that they need to just take a day off to "chill". Not a vacation day, but a work day! Today I had one tell me that they could not help on a multimillion-dollar issue because they need to be at home today. Not for a sick Mother or Grandfather, but so that someone can do some cleaning up of their yard. You can't make this stuff up.
As far as Noobs going somewhere else and can't stand the thought of actually being productive and earning their keep, well please go find another WOKe company to infect so this corporation can find its compass again.

The quality of new hires can be traced to recruiting. We look for cogs that fit our wheels. If you have the perfect mix of zero ambition, love of monotony, no need for challenge or excellent, this is your place.
It’s a hard skill set to recruit for and even harder to retain.

The noobs don’t want to work with you either. This is why noobs come and then leave, and Emerson hires more noobs. Noobs are going to work for competitors and startups and IT companies. Your attitude is bad for Emerson.

Not that there shouldn't be some diss'n of the catatonic blues, but frankly its the noobs with their I-don't-work-unless-I get-my-Latte bunch that is the problem. The ones we have around here, they can't wipe their rear ends unless Momma does it for them. The clowns think that Emerson (as a function of society) actually owes them a job or something.

Pension decision was a big mistake.
No reason for KBB to be around.

The pension was removed in 2014 or 2015. I hired in under it but it was rescinded as I didn't meet criteria to stay, ie I was too young. I 100% agree about the many old timers staying (coasting) just to keep their pension. I actually enjoyed the work I did there but I'm glad I got out.

Nobody should work under the culture of Emerson. Let the pensioners retire, leadership get replaced and then company can start fresh. This place is stuck in Reagan-era office culture.

I look around and I see a bunch of older employees hoping they don't get pink-slipped before they retire in 3, 5, or 10 years and can collect their pension. People keeping their heads down, not rocking the boat, for fear of layoff. Anyone who was hired after they took pensions off the table generally doesn't have that "security" tie to the company, so they are more like free agents. Taking a good look at the company, I would wager that there is a very large percentage that were hired while pension was still part of the benefit package. (Sorry, I don't know what year they took that off the table...seems like in the last 10-12 years?) I am also starting to see a large number of recent college grads working. I don't see many people who have been with the company 5-7 years. Because there is really no benefit for them to stay. If you're near retirement and fall in the pension group, there is reason to stay. If you're a recent college grad who needs something on your resume there is reason to be there. Anyone outside those two groups...I don't think they stick around too long. For obvious reasons.

I have an email from one of our executives that will perfectly describe why the lack of motivation/engagement exists. The leaders of this company MUST want it to fail. No other explanation. I'll prob publish it to the web soon. We'll see what the world thinks of our "leadership".

I was already disengaged at the state of the company before Covid. I honestly have no idea how people have been able to stay at Emerson this long. Are the rest of you still there not seeing the terrible culture, and the abysmal management?
