Thread regarding Shell Oil layoffs

I need a break

If you quit or you're laid off, do you plan to start a new job or start looking for a new job right away or do you plan to take a break? I am overworked and constantly tired. I'm thinking of quitting but I don't think I have the energy to start working right away. However, while I have decent savings, I'm still afraid to just not work for three or six months. I'm worried about how it'll look on my resume, among other things. I honestly can't decide what to do.

Just call off sick and have shell pay you while you recover/take a break. Seen lots of people do it. F*** Shell and the Royal Dutch Mafia

Resume gap could be resolved with “small business owner” / “consultant” kinda fill ins if you’re creative. Or use personal/academic/professional networks to get back in.

In my mid 30s. Did just that during Covid and layoffs. Took a 1 year break.

I had a ton of savings. Was planning on pivoting from Shell even before. So worked on some passion projects, spend a ton of time with family(never been closer,) added 10lbs of muscle powerlifting, raised a puppy and was completely recharged. Took a lower stress, lower hours and lower paying gig on return and the layoff in hindsight was a good thing. A little petty, so I come here to see it all burn. Lol

Full disclosure, have a wife that is working and a good professional network that helped me find a new gig.

Life is short bud. If this is were you’re at, evaluate what is important. Shell doesn’t and will never give a F about you.

PP - Foregoing family, friends, and shot at a life worth living - with 33 years in the company - you must be a JGA or above.... worked toward the next promotion and forgot you're more than a Shellbot. I feel sorry for you.

OP - don't let this be your life. You are so much more than this. Look at your beautiful family/friends/whatever gives your life purpose and head the direction that your values take you.

Well, me, I'm close to retirement age with 33 years with the company.
I have no real dependents and relocated so many times, I call nothing home.
So what I am going to do:
Drink my ar$e into the gutter.
If my bad living leads to a bad liver, probably rob a federal bank for the benefits.

For you, sounding young, and maybe having some options to go.
Take a break and reevaluate.
Do you know anything at all about that person in the mirror?
