I'll be honest, I can't find a better job because I don't have enough skills. I stagnated here because I only thought about paying the bills and less about growing a skillset that would help me get out of here one day. Now I would like to make up for the lost time and develop skills as quickly as possible in order to be more marketable. Any advice?

@OP Good for you. It’s never too late to develop new skills.
It really depends on your background what you want to do. There’s COMP TIA/A+ for IT, Google professional certificates through Coursera, and low-cost courses at community colleges that help you gain new skills quickly. Same for craft/trades: there’s welding courses, solar tech, wind-turbine tech, etc.
As others have suggested, you can also start working towards a college degree if you haven’t already, but pick your major (and your school) wisely if you go that route. Go for a marketable degree from an accredited state university.

If the OP is serious, then get a degree from a university that isn’t a diploma mill or learn a skill and go into a trade. A lot of degree haters on this website, but if you have one it opens a lot of doors. Many people on this website are disgruntled because all they have is a GED/military background and not many other options. Let the downvotes begin.

See a career counselor. There is no way to advise you what to do as we have no information about your interests, schooling, etc.
And you came to the layoff website to ask that, why?
