It's strange reading this board. So many people hate their job but they choose to stay. I don't hate it. I come here because I'm worried I might lose it. I doubt that any other place will pay somebody who is over 50 as much as I'm getting here, so my goal is to stay. But it's not just that. I like what I do and I enjoy the people I work with. It's weird how many others have a completely opposite experience.

It could be that you're part of the problem.
That's like being on the Titanic and saying you're enjoying the cruise before the iceberg hit. The problem isn't the job itself. It's that the incompetent ELT is going to destroy the company. Once it's sold to Elliot Management private equity, no one at the top will care about any employee in the company or the future of the company. It will be broken up. Pieces will be either liquidated or sold off. All the while, layoffs will continue.
I like my job.
I too like it here. The technology is new and challenging to me. The people around me are good.
However the mgmt seems “home grown” with stale ideas bc this is only place they managed people before. But the company direction and lack of actions on mgmt part worry me enough to begin the search.
They need to take immediate action! Lock up top talent bc people are wise to all of this and they are leaving.
Don't be afraid to leave, just because you're 50 years old. The job market is hot right now, and assuming that you have skills that are in demand, you can be happy at another company that doesn't have a leadership talent crisis (like Citrix does right now). Raise your expectations -- you don't have to accept a culture of mediocrity due to your age.
Who you work for makes a huge difference at Citrix. One bad boss between you and the CEO can make your whole life miserable.
Happy to hear there are some parts of the company where life is still good, but just ask IT how quickly a change in managers can make your entire team miserable.
