Thread regarding Occidental Petroleum Corp. layoffs

What is keeping you here?

Why do you stay at Oxy? What would you say to convince someone to stay rather than looking elsewhere? Or why are you considering leaving?

Asking this question means you have big reservations about staying. Ask yourself about your mental health; your interactions with your coworkers and managers...is it positive, is it constructive, does it leave you drained and frustrated; your career, but considering Covid stalling things, is this something you can see helping your career in the future, whether it's something you can grow in or a good stepping stone for getting where you want. I'm staying because I can tolerate my manager well enough (things doesn't have to be perfect, lets be real), the benefits and pay is good and the work is still relevant to my education and I'm building skills and experience. Good luck.

VH is the hottest CEO! That is the ONLY reason I stay.

Lol. Treating people with respect and Oxy. Like putting ethics with Goebbels.

You will go far because of your positive attitude. Keep it up and treat people with respect because it is simply the correct thing to do. You know, the golden rule.

For me. Good pay, great benefits, and a great team to work with as well. The technical staff we support is a great group of people as well. I am very appreciative of everything at Oxy, and especially during these tough times with the pandemic.

It all depends on your reputation in your profession and how many specialized skills you have. An engineer with only a BS degree and two years experience in operations might have a difficult time finding a better job.

No place to go. If subsurface petroleum geo or engineer the job market is pretty bleak.
