Thread regarding Southwestern Energy Co. layoffs

Furloughs starting this week

Attention all Southwest employees: due to the surge in Omicron virus, and employees who chose not to join the almighty vaxx bandwagon, management will be implementing mandatory furloughs for all staffing levels below Director, starting this week. During weeks of furloughs many expenses usually covered by the company (cell phone, health insurance, etc.) will be billed to the employees. An email with further details and explanations will be sent by 6pm on Sunday evening.

How many starting your furlough this week? I’m also going to pair one of my weeks with spring break so I have two weeks off. One paid, one not, but our trip to Maui will be extra long.

Oh boy. I did not know you can negotiate like that. I start my furlough 3rd week of February. I will join you on Facebook group. We need each other. (hugs).

When does everyone start their furlough? Me: start’s Monday for first week. Fortunately for me, I negotiated some things while I’m off. They will continue paying my cell phone bill and I can use for personal calls and internet, but the prioritized data plan Also, I’m allowed to bring my family up to the Market for three meals per week (during non peak hours only). I do have to turn in my company Amex card though. Interested in starting a Facebook support group for furloughed employees. Who else?

Our boss is a true leader. She is volunteering to be furloughed verses asking one of her team. Stunned and wished some SVP would do the same.

Everyone ready. Furloughs less than 24 hours. Nervous here. Whose with me?

This is true. Her new gig did not work out. Plus she likes the clean shaven food SWN has to offer much better.

This happened. 6 of us met as we started eating and talking. Then an HR gal came into the room asked us to leave and took our names. Bet we are first to be furloughed

Listen everyone who is at corporate office. I will buy everyone lunch who wants to join me today to discuss how we can engage our leaders about their furlough plans. Vax or not. This company is why I wake up. All these WOKE people are causing us problems.

I don’t care what you say. The management of this company believes the vax is the be all end all of employee health and safety. For this reason, we’ll be furloughing many who choose to be selfish and not get vaxxed. For those fully protected, we can resume normal work functions such as doing it in the stairwells, etc. without fear of transmitting Covid.

I am vaxxed and boosted. Will stand in solidarity with those that are not. It’s FREEDOM of choice. My body my choice. This is not fair. Can I call the BOD to complain?

How many you ask? That depends. We have a large percentage of unvaxxed and unboosted in our employee population. These people will be first in line to be furloughed. We prioritize the health and safety of our employees first. Those who aren’t vaxxed and boosted are obviously selfish and don’t prioritize their job anyway.

In all seriousness, how many will be furloughed this year? What’s the number? Do they have to give WARN? I can’t afford to miss work. My family depends on my check.

Shares of value? I already wiped my ar-e with those and flushed them. Those things haven’t been worth anything in the last several years. I also have lined my cats litter box with the certificates.

Ok. Where do I sign up. This will add to my summer vacation in Maui. No need to burn my vacation. My big a$$ bonus this year will have me in a five star resort for a month. Let’s Go Bill!!!

Thanks for sharing. Wonder if senior leadership is taking a similar cut (cough cough…. Yeah Right).

Now watch for the other component when full year guidance is released in February boasting a further cut in costs by something like 8% (or 1/12 of your salary). Difficult headwind in an environment where we have very favorable oil and gas prices? Not buying it. Weak leadership giving in to the demands of the street to preserve their benefits package is more like it.

Here’s a novel idea - instead of reducing costs by continually cutting “our most treasured asset (which Bill tells to the investors all the time, btw)”, how about committing to buying back some of those shares you’ve used over the last 6 years to fully dilute our market price , and actually instead generate value for your shareholders for the first time in your career?

Bill’s sh-t storm added a few more levels of crappiness today.

I think I’d rather just get laid off. Who’s with me? Can we vote on this?

Uh, yeah. Appears to be a thing. I got something along these lines (trying to remember it from memory).

Dear valued SWN employee:

As you know, times are tough these days. Our Board of Directors and our CEO have made the tough decision to enact work furloughs as a last resort to cut costs in the coming year as we continue to battle very strong headwinds on our industry. This will allow us to avoid having permanent reduction in workforce which we’ve so painfully experienced 6 times since August of 2015. We can rely on the entire workforce to guide us into a more prosperous footing and position us to gain strength toward the end of 2022. We are asking each affected employee (if you’re receiving this email, you’re affected) to pick a minimum of 4 work weeks between next week and August 1, 2022. Please speak with your Supervisor for more details. Thank you for being committed to what’s best for the company and taking one for the team!

How do I post a screenshot of the letter? I am glad to share. I am honest as day is long.

Anyone willing to share the letter on here? Skeptical given the amount of false cr-p on this board that this is real.

However, it does make sense since the executives still need to show continuous year on year reduction in wells costs, especially since the share price hasn't done anything in a few years. They really can't afford to lay anyone else off and still be able to execute the business. Furloughs allow them to get the cost reductions while still delivering the business. At some point though, the reckless disregard the leadership shows towards morale will come back to bite them (not that they care).

Sorry for those impacted if true.

Got my furlough papers today. Have to pick 4 weeks to “be off” between now and August 1, 2022. A month without pay. Gonna hit the pocketbook hard. Already was behind on my bills. Bought Jr a dirt bike and bought my husband a new charcoal filter for his office chair.

From the official HR FAQ page:

Only ivermectin prescribed by a doctor and taken orally is approved as a treatment and will count as a booster. If you want to take a anally, that is only approved for 5th floor executives. Thank you.

Question. I am vaxxed but still taking the horse paste dewormer (Imervectin) thru the re---m as a booster. Will doing so keep me from being furloughed this week. I know several others here in West Virginia doing this. Waiting to here from my co-workers

Got from a trusted source. Vax status factors into layoff consideration. 2022 is going be tough for all of us with Omicron and “the jab” and layoffs.

No jab no layoff no jab no layoff. That’s our chant this week. Who is with me???

I am gonna protest outside the office during my furlough. I will not take the jab or wear a mask. Take that you sheep. Me and others will not take the jab even if it cost us our jobs. Who else from land will join me.
