Thread regarding Citrix Systems Inc. layoffs

Too many people are quitting

I wouldn't quit right now even if I had a job lined up. I want my payout. If I'm going to leave, I want them to pay me to leave. I have no intention of making them look good by getting rid of me without paying me severance. Layoffs are coming. If you're going to leave anyhow, why wouldn't you wait a little longer?

Why do people think severance is some kind of a windfall you should wait for? If you got laid off when you were not here expecting, it’s a good “bonus” to tide you over. But to stay on, just for severance when the market outside is bursting with opportunities is… mind boggling.

So you’re on the Titanic that’s sinking slowly but inevitably. But you’ll only get on a lifeboat if the ship company pays you to? I see your reasoning. Good luck!

Left Citrix several months ago - on my own terms - and couldn’t be happier. Making up for whatever little potential severance through the substantial TC bump. Working with smart, talented people. Not the Citrix lo----e holdouts.

Get out of Citrix before it becomes a permanent stain on your resume. Unless you’re close to retirement and just biding your time.

If I stay for a severance payout, I would be worry about:

  1. mental anguish to quickly get a replacement job, which could be force me to get less than an ideal job
  1. lots of competition from laid off peers in the local market for my position, which can prevent me from negotiating a good package with the new company
  1. the RSUs that I will lose have now sank so low that I can easily negotiate a sign-on bonus to replace them.

I’m already looking for a new job and taking my time to find a perfect match.

It amazes me how some real culprits for this mess dodged accountability fully.

Many leaders in product and engineering took the company to a wrong direction have suddenly gone become mute and are hiding. Why are there no hand raising happening?
Well I guess it was easy to find scapegoats elsewhere and to let go people who were simply following the plan.

Unfortunately people are so miserable that they don’t care if they leave money on the table if it means they get to leave Citrix. Citrix is a sinking ship and everyone sees it. The work environment is so bad and the decisions leadership are making are so bad that people don’t want to stay to see what happens next. Now lots of lawsuits against Citrix are making things worse. If Citrix isn’t relevant now they will never be. It’s not like Citrix will successful in 6 months. They can’t do well during a pandemic which shows things will only go down from here.

It depends on where you are based and role.

Most people want to be in a position where they won't have a gap in employment.

There is also less pressure and the opportunity to be more selective in selecting your next move when you still have a job. There's more negotiating power/leverage.

Additionally during layoffs the market is saturated with people looking and some companies have a cap on how many people they hire from organizations to not change their internal culture.

Based on the current stock price waiting on the unvested RSUs may not make as much sense

I decided to put it behind me with no severance. I would rather not be miserable every day of my life and having to answer to incompetent VPs, directors and managers who are only trying to save themselves by kissing the next persons a-s. I felt stuck and like I wasn’t living up to my potential and it put me in a bad headspace bc I know I could do better but no matter what we just kept losing quarter after quarter (numbers wise).

Although I do get it if you’ve been there for years and get a large payout. I was there one year so the juice wasn’t worth the squeeze for me. I can tell you I’ve only been out for a few weeks and my life has improved dramatically and I work for a much better org, so there is hope.
