It would take a pretty interesting mind set shift.
VMware EUC has some of the same issues, but without the drama and baggage that CTXS has.
Basically, Citrix WAS the thought leader in this space. VMware decided to jump in their pond and BOUGHT some thought leaders (start ups, etc) and had some innovators (like Kit). but at a certain point you have so much baggage (in middle mgmt, tech debt, maintaining existing onprem cr-p) and lack of visionaries driving toward something and pulling a team with them.
Citrix could pull out of the dive. refocus on what buyers want and find the leaders to figure out what is needed before demand is there. Plus of course you have to have the buy-in of the admins and architects in your target customers. Too many years spent pitching to C level. Yes they sign the checks. Yes they are needed for whale deals. BUT, if the admins, and IT staff aren't buying your pitch they will tell that their bosses. Simple to demo, simple to try, simple to use for the IT staff. That filters up.
Mgmt and proper monitoring (for security and productivity) of SaaS apps along with the Windows legacy apps, providing tools to help people revamp the way they meet and collaborate. Actually pushing out that vision and not just the corporate Marketing of "CITRIX [INSERT GENERIC PRODUCT NAME HERE]"
He-l my Parents know the name "CITIRIX"... And all they think is its a desktop or Windows app... If the leaders can't be found to move beyond that, or the people to be the evangelists to show how Citrix is more than that...
Well then I think this company is the 2001 version of Novell.
Coming from a partner and previously customer: The area where Citrix was shining and was market leader (Digital workspace) became very competitive post pandemic. Sure, a lot of Citrix sales and leaders made huge commission on customer's sudden needs for more licenses/products when the pandemic first hit but this also saw born of new industries. Big Boys (Microsoft, Google, AWS, Nutanix) are already competing in this market which was primarily Citrix and Vmware.
Then there are newer competing solutions like Teradici, Cameyo offering similar products at much lower costs and SMB might eat it up.
Citrix should have merged/bought a storage solution that would have helped host their products and bundle the product suite while giving the option to stay agnostic as well
Another aspect of partnership: 2020 saw a huge growth in demand for Citrix and saw customers directly reaching out to Citrix. Citrix team took advantage and saw that they do not need partners to sell certain solutions and sold them directly in the name of "Urgency". 2021 saw reduction in how partners were incentivized which was a bummer and drove some towards different solution.
In ‘top 10 Incompetent leadership’?
market leader in what?
