Thread regarding Optum layoffs

No more PTO

I was involved in a call last week, where some of the leadership were trying to figure out ways to not allow employees to take their PTO. This was in efforts to cover for the large amount of employees soon to be on “administrative suspensions” for not being vaccinated. A lot of them were asking for PTO to be paid out, and not letting people take vacations. So they could do the work of all the people UHC let go. Layoffs won’t be a problem for awhile, the new way of thinking at UHC is slave labor, mandated overtime, no days off. Welcome to the new UHG culture. Happy Holidays from UHC!!

I was surprised to learn when I looked at the employee handbook that UHG does not grant PTO. Its not considered a benefit. Its considered a gift of the company..... yes, believe it, a gift LOL

Companies will let you go in a heartbeat, no matter how loyal you are to them. That happened to us. Super loyal to my former place. Then a random Friday comes and we're gone with no chance to say bye bye to my coworkers. So why should we give these companies any courtesy if we find another job? Do you, not the company. We work for money. And there will always be more work. We don't get paid in pizza parties, singathons, $2 good employee/lackee certificates, or $25 burnt coffee cards.

That why you have employee protections, unions, govt protections...unless you're USian--then youre employment at whim/will. They can do whatever, whenever, no reason unless it's racial, origine, se-----y gender bender based etc....

I have never worked for a company (besides MOPtum) where PTO wasn't paid out when you leave the company. From the company tracking your mouse movements/phone calls to mandatory overtime/PTO blackout periods for more than half the year, working for Optum is like living in China (I am Chinese American btw). Optum/UHG took a page out of the CCP playbook on how to control or "manage" their employees.

CULTure (very US corporate propaganda), and denying time off/vacation etc. bc you have no employment rights like every other country. We're employees at whim/will. They can let us go for no reason, any reason, any time. Good luck with all those debts, taxes, and fees etc that never end in the world's cesspool
