“Anonymous” employee survey being pushed - should employees take it?

“Anonymous” employee survey being pushed - should employees take it?

It’s called “OHI” survey and they say each person gets a unique identifier link but they insist the survey is completely anonymous.

Is it possible that they could match the surveys with employees and target employees based on their responses?

Should employees avoid the survey? Right now the participation rate is so low that management had to extend the survey deadline and send out pleas to complete the survey.

Thoughts????

And they tell us they can’t discuss the survey results because of “confidentiality” while they simultaneously tell us they are transparent and “agile”

The "findings" of these surveys have always been met with extreme skepticism. I have never seen a follow up note on plans for areas which were poorly rated but impossible to ignore.

D: @5dss+1dymPxzg I lol reading your comment. That was exactly what went through my head when I was filling it out

You know how we are evaluated as mostly THREEs (achieved) with the advent of more TWOs this year (because risk)? Reciprocate. After all, THREE is really great. Yeah.

Filled it out honestly (negatively). Who gives a sh-t, if they want to fire me for telling them they have made poor decisions, that’s fine, reinforces my survey responses. There are plenty of companies out there, ones that will hopefully value your opinions and feedback.

I see it as you gain zero by filling it in , but by doing so you carry a risk of being seen as a negative employee.

Nope , I will not be filling it in.

@1wmh+1dymPxzg I beg to differ with you. Several employees who answered these survey's honestly in my area, ie provided mainly negative feedback, were RIF'd later that year. This was a couple of years ago. Why would the company be asking people to participate in an employee survey when we know nothing is going to come of it for the reasons they give? TR has been in a heavy cost cutting mode for several years now, saving money any which way to raise the share price. Do you think they are now going to magically act on negative survey feedback and make things better for employees?

They do not use the word "anonymous." They say "confidential," and that's a world of difference. If they cannot guarantee anonymity to me I will never take it.

A colleague with 20+ yrs tenure, someone who was the top exec's go-to person over the years as the top exec climbed the ladder, was laid off mid-2021. The person's work was transferred to someone in a low-cost destination. The person was required to train the replacement who had zero experience in the subject matter. This is a person who believed the top exec would always find a spot for this person; that there would be some loyalty shown for a couple of decades of late nights, filling gaps, taking on new things, and being a team player.

So I don't think it makes much of a difference to us individually if we answer how we truly feel, if we don't answer, if we answer neutrally, or if we are just a "Go Team I Love It Here". The transfer of jobs to low cost destinations says everything we need to know. I think this survey matters more to the higher ups relative to their own positions within the company. They want 100% participation and happy answers so they look good. That's why the results are always presented as being positive with opportunities to improve.

We have this survey every year and there have never, ever been repercussions to employees. A unique link for each employee is the only way to prevent people from taking it multiple times. I filled it out honestly.

I played it neutral because if you don’t take the survey they keep hounding you even though it’s supposed to be voluntary. I said basically to most questions that I was neutral or it was non-applicable to me.

This survey is not anonymous. Don’t be naive. Do you really think they are going to act on these survey results and make TR a better place? Ask yourself why they have these surveys annually? Fill it out at your peril!

I fill it out knowing it can be tied back to be. But I’m not scared to tell the truth. I gave really low scores for almost everything.

LOLed at the “don’t give anyone else your link to protect your anonymity”. Though I did fill out the survey and was (somewhat) honest.

I filled it out, got to the end and realized I had nothing to gain by filling it out and telling them the truth, so I exited out. There is no functional reason to take it, not once did they take a modicum of the advice our team desperately tried to give years earlier, and there is no reason to believe the surveys are actually anonymous.
