Thread regarding General Electric Co. layoffs

This shouldn't have amused me as much as it did

I quit last week and when I notified my manager he was genuinely shocked that I was leaving. Even though I was never silent about my dissatisfaction with my job and lack of career progression. He just didn't believe I'd dare and do it. He then tried to give me a few reasons to stay, but too little too late. It just amazes me that even when we tell them repeatedly we're unhappy, they don't think we'd ever pack up and leave. They truly believe the "be happy you have a job" cr-p they keep spewing, apparently.

Many American workers are leaving their jobs and careers for another chapter. The scared ones stay, complain and wish for that fake American dream. Congrats on leaving I will not be far behind you. It takes courage, guts and a strong character to make a change.

I don't believe they are believers of the "be happy you have a job" mindset. Although I'm sure there are some who are, I think it's more of, they hear the same line everyday from most everyone that they are unhappy and they've heard it for years. Most complain but very few really do anything about it. Their efforts to do better stops at the end of their complaining. So when somebody finally does go through with leaving to do better, it's like Whoa!! They really mean it and is a truly committed go getter! I hope I can convince them to change their mind. Most people remain committed to their decision once they decide to leave and the talk to change your mind to stay is as you said, too little too late. Best of luck!!

Good for you buddy !
Unfortunately, for too many in the GenElec. world, their goal is to just be "Living the Dream", a.k.a, being Fat, D-mb & Happy(!?)
Obviously it's a matter of perspective, which in your case, you set your life goals higher than the average clock puncher.
So for any "knuckle draggers" that are blind to the water rising above your knees, while the GE ship continues sinking, take
