WFH/Remote Inconsistency in Different Franchises

In software, ESD people never go in the office and they're fine. Mainframe (which actually makes money)... they are all tracking people with badges and scary spreadsheets. It's the craziest thing I've ever seen!

Are other franchises loose with WFH or hybrid, or does it depend if you have a crazy GM? Some groups getting away with it without any punishment from execs so why the inconsistency?

ESD requires everyone to be in office. Same rules apply to them. However, they found a way out. I spoke to one of their manager. Most of them badge in and leave. I go to one of the floors where ESD people sit in Innovation. I would see not more than 2 persons. They are the same 2 people I see on any given day. Badge-in and leave is the new solution ESD folks found to fool the system.

RSUs here are good but FAANGs are better.

@HockWhatAFock >

This is very true, anyone still there 2 years after their original employer was bought out either has nowhere else to go, is still waiting for the severance payout, or has talked themselves into being handcuffed by RSUs (which really is a subset of having nowhere else to go). Anyone joining now must be naive/ignorant/nuts.

The reason is because Broadcom is where the the industry leftovers are. People no other company wanted. They need you in the office to watch over your shoulder because you have industry chops like a child. If you were a motivated and talented adult you would have left broadcom years ago.

Not true, same BS rules apply in ESD, with the spreadsheets and kindergarten attendance roll call. Given how much that runs counter to current trends (and sane practices during a pandemic) in other companies, it's becoming yet another compelling reason to leave.

it was kinda the same when it was CA..the badge monitoring, etc.

anyways...to me the right approach is this....if you're customer facing...no need to be in office...if you're more than 90 minutes commute...let them WFH. i hear a lot of whining from people who are like 25-40 min from office...wtf? entitled fu----s...

This is a sweeping statement that may not be completely true.

The biggest competitor (BMC Compuware) is all about culture and flexibility now... so MSD needs to adapt or we're jumping ship!
