Thread regarding Lowe's Cos. layoffs

Stop Changing My Schedule!!!

Every friggin day I have to check my schedule for changes. One day I’m opening, the next day I’m closing. Whoops, just checked my schedule, its a mid-schedule now.

I had Friday off and I had a doctors appointment but several people just quit so now I have Tuesday off instead. My doctors appointment? No problem, they aren’t over booked or short staffed. I’m sure I’ll get another one in two or three months. No problem, RIGHT!?

Am I making my point clear here? Part of the reason that people are quitting in droves is because this company treats us like cattle. They don’t even pretend to care anymore.

Why am I supposed to work hard for a company that clearly doesn’t give a d*mn? I keep forgetting.

I jumped ship with 322hrs of unused sick time. What a dope I was. I only called in one time in like ten years.
Once someone who lived paycheck to paycheck (like most all Lowe’s employees) had to be off for cancer surgery and treatment, I and others wanted to donate some sick time to get her some money. NO WAY!!! It would sc--w up her short term disability (50%pay) we were told. We fought then were told the law doesn’t allow it. We fought and found that we, by law, can gift our sick time. Then the truth. We do not own our sick time the way Lowe’s intentionally set up the system. They give it to us as we ask for it, can reduce it as they like, and can limit its use. Allowing us to donate it would set a precedent of ownership of it by the employee. Given that precedent, Lowe’s would need to pay accrued sick time to employees upon departure. Ain’t that some sh-t?!!

This is one reason why we need a union. They would never get away with this. We literally have no one to protect us from these outrageous policies.

  • I’ve got friends that work for Unions, UPS, Fed ex. They track you by each item you move. You literally need to call in daily if you are part time to see if you’re needed. If you are in the bottom percentage and not moving enough, they don’t fire you, they may just leave you off the schedule till you leave.

The HR team doesn't know how to staff - not at the corporate level and certainly not the field area hr folks.

See, the problem here is that everyone still believes that it’s Lowe’s policy that the schedule can’t be changed after it’s posted. That used to be the policy but not anymore. Go check, I did.

NOW, the policy states that they can change your schedule whenever they like. It’s not worded like that but that’s what it means. They didn’t notify everyone of that policy change did they? Sneaky little corporate a-holes, aren’t they?

So now they do what they want and if you say anything they just repeat “Needs of the business!” over and over again like a parrot caught in a time loop.

“Customer Centric” scheduling should be named what it really is, which is “We do whatever the f*ck we want scheduling”.

When my schedule comes out, I print it out and that's it. I make plans. If they change it I have proof and I work what I printed.

Use your sick time for your doctor's appointment. if you don't use it, you lose it when you quit.

Here's how I do it... I print my schedule on the the first day of the work week ( Saturday) and if it changes it's on them . I have to schedule time off 30 days in advance ,so you can expect me to go along with the schedule change overnight..NOPE.

If you are in California contact the CA State Labor Board. What Lowe's is doing in illegal. Sears tried the same thing. Some Sears employees contacted the CA State Labor Board who in turn contacted Sears and made Sears put a stop to it.

Print your schedule and hold them to it. You made plans on the days off they scheduled you, sorry can't change them. Work your original schedule.

There are state laws in place on how much prior notice they have to give you if they change your schedule. Check with the Dept of Labor in your state or google it.
